Rottweilers, a strong mastiff-type dog, are said to be the descendants of the drover dogs of ancient Rome who accompanied the Roman Legions across the Alps, herding their cattle and guarding their camps. One such Roman Legion camp settled a town that would become the city of Rottweil in southwestern Germany, where the breed of today began. They are a distinctive and powerful breed with stocky bodies, dark eyes, short black fur and mahogany markings. Their compact and substantial build denotes great strength, agility and endurance. Their character is marked by fierce loyalty, unwavering discipline, uncommon valor and great love for their pack families.
Such a noteworthy companion should carry an equally noteworthy moniker.
Patton is named after General George Smith Patton Jr., the four star general who is arguably the best military and armored warfare mind of modern times. From a distinguished career at West Point to stellar service in World War II, Patton served his nation with determination, tenacity and discipline.
During World War II, then-Major General Patton accomplished the unthinkable in handing the legendary Desert Fox, Erwin Rommel stunning defeats utilizing American forces that had virtually no background in desert warfare. Courage. Later, as a lieutenant general, Patton was given command of the Third Army which began tearing through Europe in August 1944, advancing from town to town. With the Third Army always on the offensive, the opposition could never regroup, organize an attack or dig in and as a result suffered a stunning defeat. Discipline. Near the end of WWII, Patton's Third Army seized Trier, Germany when no one thought it could be done. Determination. This was the type of warfare Patton loved: tenacious, offensive, and never yielding.
Patton never ceased to amaze the military community. By Victory in Europe Day, May 9, 1945, Four Star General Patton's Third Army had thoroughly distinguished itself as one of the most tenacious and distinguished of the war effort.
We believe the quote "If I do my full duty, the rest will take care of itself." - General George S. Patton, Jr. and we are going to do our duty by Patton. Watch for him at both upcoming AKC and German-style dog shows.
