About An Orb Weaver

This short video shows
the nighttime activities
of a typical orb weaver
spider. The videotaping
was done without any
artificial light except an
invisible infrared light.

Classical harp music is
an appropriate back-
ground as the spider
creates its spiral web.

There is no narration
or text to this nature
montage.

See what happens when a
male orb weaver tries to
approach the female when
she is not ready for him.
(Don't worry! He escapes!)

It is an interesting show of
how the male gently strums
the outer web to signal the
female that he is calling on
her.  This gives the male a
little  distance  in  case the
female's mood is more for
dinner than romance.
