Butterfly Weed
![]() |
Asclepias tuberosa
Milkweed Family
- Asclepiadaceae
A favorite of butterflies and bees. Most milkweeds have a white milky sap but the Butterfly weed does not, it has a clear sap. Also called: Pleurisy Root and Orange Milkweed. It is said that the seeds and roots make a gentle laxative. Never tried it so can't say it's true. The roots have been made into a tea for Pleurisy but if too much is consumed you will become nauseous. Let's don't try either of these remedies we could be very ill afterwards. Bloom period April - Sept.
