Telegraph Lettuce

Telegraph Lettuce

Lactuca floridana
Sunflower Family - Asteraceae

I have often wondered how such a beautiful Texas Wildflower can grow from a really ugly plant.  You will notice the big toothy leaves and the big ugly plant on the side of the streets in Ft. Worth, but you will have to look hard to see the tiny blooms that it produces. These blooms turn to a fluffy parachute and then blow away to start another plant.  Bloom period from May - Oct.  It is also called:  Wild Lettuce and Florida Lettuce.  Guess it's not a native.
