Phytolacca americana
Pokeweed Family - Phytolaccaceae
There are lots of names for this wildflower: Poke, Pokum, Skoke, Skokum, Pokeberry, Pigeonberry, Inkberry, Cancerjalap, American-Nightshade, American-Spinach, Bear's Grape, Coak, Crowberry, haystack-Weed and many more. The leaves of this plant are said to be good to eat, some books say they are poison. Don't think I want to try them. Birds act drunk after eating the berries. Not an especially pretty plant but you will find it most everywhere. The blooms are tiny white flowers, not in this picture, only the leaves and berries. Bloom period is April - July and sometime later.
