"MP3 Format" was originally conceived to provide a fast way to download / transfer previews of music, then obtain / purchase the "REAL VERSION" possessing high quality digital audio formatting.   "MP3" is one of many lossy compression algorithms, where the reconstituted waveform suffers from significant loss of samples and thus, fidelity.   It turns out that the missing data and the exciting character it imparts to the music is the very thing that our equipment (and virtually all true high-end audio equipment) is designed to accurately portray.   Once a high-quality wave file has been converted to ANY lossy compression format such as "MP3", the quality is forever lost; converting an "MP3" back to a high-resolution format, such as 44.1 KHz / 16 bits, will only yield a distorted version of the original.   The audible effects will begin at the highest frequencies and become more obnoxious at progressively lower frequencies as the compression becomes more severe.   Loss of clarity in the upper mid-range / high frequencies causes loss of stereo imaging and the illusion of dimension.   As well as being distorted, the music will sound dull, flat, lifeless, basically lacking all the sonic qualities that true audiophiles expect and appreciate.   Lossy compression formats are based on the assumption that all people experience Psycho-Acoustic Phenomenon equally and cannot detect the degraded performance it produces -- and this assumption is  TOTALLY FALSE ! ! !    When "MP3" corrupted versions are played back on any of our systems, the lack of fidelity is immediately obvious.
