| Without a doubt, Double Dragon is one of the founding fathers of the side-scrolling beat'em up genre of games. To be honest, there weren't many games like it before its time. Sure there were games like Renegade and Konami's Crime Fighters, but they weren't too good. Before Double Dragon was released, there weren't any really good beat'em ups out there. Double Dragon changed that and in doing so, spawned a whole genre of clones, including the infamous Final Fight. So what have the game's heroes Billy and Jimmy been up to all these crazy years? |
Click on each game title to see its capsule entry. THE ARCADE GAMESThere were four Double Dragon arcade games, including the Neo Geo one-on-one fighter. Oddly enough, only one of those games was actually any good.
Not many good Double Dragon games hit the SNES, but I still think that Super Double Dragon (aka Return of Double Dragon) is the best Double Dragon ever.
THE FAMICOM (NES) GAMESTwo were published by Tradewest while the others were published by Acclaim. As a Master System fan, I may be a little biased, but I didn't like any of these games.
Not many Double Dragon games hit the Mega Drive/Genesis, but the best home version of the original Double Dragon is on the system.
Double Dragon has been on almost every single system known to man. I neglected to include the various versions for the Atari consoles, some computer systems and the handheld games (including the infamous Tiger Electronics game). Will it be long before Double Dragon hits say, the Game Boy Advance? |
