Power Play Performance - 1998-1999

The point of these graphs is to show how well the Aeros are doing on the Power Play and Penalty Killing.

The top figure is for the current 1998-99 season and the 1997-98 season; the bottom figure is for the two previous seasons. What has been interesting to note is the "evolution" of the Aeros' Special Teams.

For the three seasons before the current one, there is no appreciable difference in the number of power play opportunities for the Aeros and their opponents. What is appreciable is the change from three seasons ago when the Aeros were badly out scored on the power play [i.e. they couldn't kill a penalty]; to the next season when they held their own, matching the opponents virtually goal for goal; to last season when they were killing penalties better than anybody else in the league and scoring on the power play above average for the league [see also the page on IHL Power Play Performance].

In the current season, the Aeros are keeping ahead of the opposition. Compared to last season, the notable trend is the increased performance on the power play. The line showing power play goals is increasing more rapidly this season than last. Alas, so also is the line for opponents' power play goals. Still, once again, the Aeros are near the top of the league in Power Play Index. One hopes that this will continue.
