Lone Star Old English Sheepdog Rescue

Who We Are

Texas is a big state, covering a third of the width of the country and about another third north to south. For a number of years there have been people spread out over this expanse of territory who have been doing Old English Sheepdog Rescue. Different people have assumed responsibility for whatever neeeded to be done: locating dogs in need, fostering, getting vet care, fetching and transporting , identifying new homes, and following up on placements. In the process of doing rescue, these people have worked with each other, with the more formal Rescue Organizations, and with whoever else in the country that was doing rescue. That's kinda the way things happen in Texas; we just get on with it.

Recently, the Lone Star Old English Sheepdog Rescue web site appeared. It came about as a means to celebrate some of the rescue activities and to provide information to people who want to participate in rescue. One celebration was the story of Lady Jane which had a national following. Another was the Saga of the Conroe Girls, which was done under the auspices of South West OES Rescue. The site tells people what dogs are available for adoption in Texas and where else to look across the U.S. for information about OES Rescue. It provides information on the customary procedures for adopting a dog or for putting a dog up for adoption.

It is a well known fact that rescue is not free. Most of the dogs that come into rescue require some sort of veterinary care, many need to be spayed or neutered, some require extensive care and treatment in order to get them into a condition where they can go to their adoptive homes in reasonably good health. Some of these expenses are borne by the people doing the rescue; some are defrayed by donations made at the time of adoption by the adopting families; some are covered by the generosity of people who just want to help. In an attempt to facilitate the handling of these expenses, a bank account has been established in the name of Lone Star Old English Sheepdog Rescue in Houston. This will serve as a focal point for paying veterinary expenses, providing funds as needed for care and maintenance, and receiving donations.

Typically, when we get a dog, it gets a hair cut, is examined by a vet for general health, is brought up to date on its vaccinations, and neutered or spayed. Our basic policies are

No Intact Dog Is Placed, Ever. All Are Neutered Or Spayed Before Adoption.

Dogs Are Matched To Prospective Adopters As Well As Possible.

We Will Take Back Any Dog We Place For Any Reason.

Lone Star Old English Sheepdog Rescue is not a 501(c)(3) organization. It is what it is: people helping the dogs we love.
