So who are Team Vertical and the "Killer V's"?

Last year in the 1998 CQ WW CW Contest, Team Vertical stunned the contesting and DXpedition communities by setting a world-record score (39M points) and world-record QSO totals (17,600 QSOs) using only vertical antennas! Just as amazing, was the world record was set from a "2-point" location, which hasn’t been done in nearly 20 years. With the ingenious implementation of the vertical antennas, and extremely strong signals worldwide, the team earned their nickname: "The Killer V's".

To learn more about the record-breaking 6Y2A operation and their antennas, please visit the Team Vertical Web Site.

The 1999 Killer V's: W4SO, KE7X, AG9A, NT1N, N6TV, N6BT, N6BV, K9ZO, WA5VGI, YV5EED, AD6E, K2KW + others

4M7X is being hosted by Groupo DX Caracas

Islands on the Air (IOTA) !

4M7X is located on Coche Island, IOTA SA-012. Go ahead and work this IOTA on all bands!

Prefix Hunters !

4M7 has rarely been activated on CW. It should be easy to work this rare prefix on all bands!

Pre Contest Activity:

The Killer V's will sign YV7 / homecall from November 20 to December 1, 1999. The team will be active before the contest on all major HF and WARC bands on CW and SSB.

* A special effort will be made on 160m to work Asia and the Pacific before the contest - look for team members beginning November 22 at 0800Z on 1.829 on a daily basis

Coche Island Sunrise = 1015Z on Nov 21, and 1020z on Nov 30

Coche Island Sunset = 2145z on Nov 21, and 2146z on Nov 30

6 Meter Activity:

6M activity is anticipated before the contest. We are located in Grid Square FK80

Finding 4M7X during the contest:

Typically look for 4M7X higher in the band around, about 40-45 kc from the bottom of the band.

Working 4M7X:

4M7X should be strong into most major population centers (EU, USA, JA). 4M7X will use very high-gain vertical antennas designed by Force 12. The vertical arrays hear very well… Even QRP stations, or stations with low wire antennas should be able to work 4M7X. If there is a large pileup, and you can't immediately work us, try again when the pileup is smaller.

Actual Comments received from the 1998 6Y2A operation:

Japan: "I worked 6Y2A on 40m with 10w and a mobile whip on my balcony"

Arizona, USA: "6Y2A heard my QRP signal on 160m, and I was using my 25' high 80m antenna loaded on 160m!

England: "You were 40 over S9 on 10m. I worked you with 1 watt and a low triband Yagi"

Japan: "On 80m I thought you were a local BY station, not 6Y. Hi. Equipment on 80m is a dipole at 10m high and 100 watts."

As you can see, it should be easy to work 4M7X. If you don’t have an antenna for a particular band, just load up what ever you have, and there's a good chance we should work you!

Equipment: 6 Stations, using kilowatt amplifiers Antennas: Verticals, of course!
