Savvy currently has a CD, U-CD and a CDX in obedience, and an RN and two legs towards RA in rally. One reason I chose Savvy was that his mom's littermate Chelly (Ch/OTCH RiverRun's Champagne Wishes UDX) got a perfect 200 her first time in the obedience ring. Chelly went on to finish her OTCH in 5 shows and go HIT at the 2003 National Specialty.

Savvy apparently received a copy of this obedience gene. With very minimal training, he earned his U-CD at one and a half years of age with scores of 197.5, 197.5, 198 and a High in Trial. Despite only three times showing in UKC, he finished 2004 as the #6 Border Collie in UKC Novice. He is also ranked #12 on the BCSA Obedience Scoreboard for AKC Novice obedience. Savvy's average score in ten times competing is 195, and he placed eight of those times. His rally scores so far are 99, 99, 99, 100 and 97.

The thing that impresses me more than Savvy's competition obedience is his real-life obedience. He has great impulse control, doesn't jump on people or countersurf, waits politely at doors, and doesn't chase joggers, cyclists, horses or cars. He pulls less on leash than any dog I've had, and can be walked in a buckle collar. Best of all, since puppyhood, he has come instantly on a single command...even on the rare occasions he decides to chase a rabbit or deer. His automatic recall response is entirely instinctive, not trained. Similarly, while Savvy loves to range 100 yards ahead on walks, he notices within seconds if I change directions, and will come racing back instantly.
