During my 4 month Brazilian expedition in 1995, I collected blood samples from 14 species of primates, went scuba diving in Salvador, and rode on a Carnaval float in Olinda.  I also visited the 230,000 km2, nearly uninhabited Pantanal swamp region during flood season, exploring it by horseback and motorboat.

(left) I found this road-killed crab-eating fox while riding around the Pantanal swamp.  It goes without saying that I hacked off his head for my skull collection.

(right) My high-tech marmoset trapping device consisted of a bunch of mango-filled chicken wire cages with string tied to their doors.  While waiting for common marmosets (Callithrix jacchus) to enter the traps, I was regularly bled dry by the entire mosquito population of Northeastern Brazil.

(left) While hand-washing laundry in the Pantanal swamp region, this semi-tame, free-ranging howler monkey decided to climb up for a little snuggle time.

The macaw in the background, which was completely wild, was just curious whether or not I had left anything nearby to steal.

(above, right, and below) Pictures of Iguacu Falls from Brazil and Argentina, and the bus that took me between the two.
