Hudson Division Director's Message - June 1999
In a few weeks Field Day 1999 will once again be upon us -
June 26 and 27. Hopefully you will be involved in your local
area with a club or a group of friends. It's a great event that
I look forward to each year. I hope to visit some of your while
you are enjoying FD this year. On Saturday I'll be accompanying
ENY SM, Rob Leiden, KR2L, to many upstate sites and on Sunday
I'll be with NLI SM, George Tranos, N2GA, visiting some Long
Island sites closer to home. It will be the last FD this
millennium.
But before you head out to Field Day you need to contact your
Congressional representative and ask for their support of ARRL's
Spectrum Protection Act of 1999, HR 783. While some fifty plus
Congressmen have now signed on to support the bill, we are still
a long way from success. ARRL and Steve Mansfield, N1MZA, our
man in Washington, are doing all they possible can. But your
Congressman is not going to support the bill unless they get
mail from home. That's you and your family. Write a letter,
make a phone call, or send an e-mail. Do all three to make
sure they get the message. Encourage your friends to do the
same. Even your non-ham friends can ask for support. The bill,
if passed, will become a very important tool in protecting our
frequencies. May and June issues of QST have information in
Steve's "DC Currents" column or visit the ARRL Web site at
http://www.arrl.org/govrelations/hr783.html
Here is a sample letter you can customize and use:
The Honorable (name)
United States House of Representatives
Washington, DC 20515
RE: H.R. 783
Dear Representative (name):
Writing as one of the nation's more than 650,000 licensed
radio amateurs, I urge you to cosponsor HR. 783, the Amateur
Radio Spectrum Protection Act of 1999.
This bill, introduced by Representative Bilirakis is a
nonpartisan, non controversial measure designed to help
protect the radio frequencies used by Amateur Radio volunteers
to provide emergency communication, technical experimentation
and recreation.
Your co-sponsorship of HR. 783 will help ensure Amateur Radio's
public service roll for the people of your Congressional
District.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
............................
ONLY Your letters will make it happen!!
Please write it before Field Day !
Thanks.
