A Kana -Little Sister- fan siteIn Japan, Kana Little Sister is called Kana Imouto. You might see me refer to it as that occasionally. |

Welcome to my fan page! Here before you are the workings of one of Kana ~Little Sister~ greatest fans. Never before have I been moved enough by a game to make a webpage dedicated to it. I do not know if that sounds like much in the scheme of gaming fan page development, but this opinion comes from a game player who spends his time mostly playing nothing but 1st person shooters.
I, myself, found out about this game while looking for a way to buy some import games for the PC. When I saw this game called Kana -Little Sister- mentioned a few times with such high reviews it aroused my curiosity and I bought a copy. It exceeded my expectations in every way, the reviews were right.
Have
you heard of this game before? You must have if you are here. The reviews
that fill the web tell of grown men being reduced to tears while playing
through this game. Hitler would have become a missionary and donated his
kidney to the Jewish if he had his own copy of Kana Imouto. But don't take
my word for it, check out the reviews other people
have written in the links section below.
The way to describe Kana -Little Sister- as a game is to say it plays
out as a interactive novel. Games of this type of very popular in Japan,
and almost non-existent here in the Americas. If you ever tried to buy
an import game based on some anime you know, you might have received a
game like this. (I have been stupid enough to buy a few games like this
that were written completely in Japanese.) The story starts and progresses
along with background art and characters to fit the situation at hand.
Some of the CG scenes have excellent artwork to accompany the plot. Along
the way you will make choices that will effect the progress of the game
and eventually what ending you will arrive at. For a storybook game, you
might be surprised how long it takes you to play through it just once,
nevermind the other endings.
It also means you have to be literate. No drooling vegetable that can't
read is going to get through this game. But hey, if you read this far you
probably aren't one.
The cast of characters
you will encounter in this game are vivid and captivating, each with their
own personality. You will get a feel for what each of the individuals are
actually like. I love the personalities the main characters each have,
they are not the typical corny stuff you would expect from a video game.
Whoever the original author(s) were, they must have had some real life
experience around the kind of drama present in Kana -Little Sister-.
The entire game will cover a span of 10 years, from adolescent to late teens. Kana Imouto has a story with a lot of high point and very few boring ones. It's more than enough to keep you captivated the entire timeline. It is rather heart-wrenching watching Kana grow up - all the good and bad times, special moments, and even the socially awkward ones. It can be even more heart-wrenching depending on what path you take in the tale.
The music in this game fits the mood well, and is way better than anything
else you could expect from it's genre. The opening scene, "The
White Season," is an impressive song to start the game off with, which
includes vocals! (Albeit vocals sung in Japanese) Matter of fact,
the game has a total of three such songs, all over 5 minutes long and all
of them are excellent listening. The storyline itself is accompanied by
thirteen other musical interludes which do a good job of fitting into the
appropriate scenes. My personal favorite is "She Was Weeping Sadly" which
I consider one of the best, and most sad, tunes to go along with this game.
The sixteen total melodies are all accessible from the title screen when
you first start the game,
so
you can listen to them anytime you want.
There is a music CD based off this game. It is called the "Kana Imouto Special Sound Album" and is import from Japan. I know Amazon.com sells it, and I am sure companies that deal in imports can get it as well. If I translate the cover correctly, this music CD is called the 'Kana Imouto Supesharu Saundoarubamu.' But Amazon.com calls it the 'Kana Imouto Special Sound Album' so that is what I will call it. It has a total of nine music tracks. Four of the songs are remix's of the original tunes from the game itself, the other five are completely new. All of the tracks (except the For You Music Box remix) are songs with lyrics being sung. The song called 'Snowflake Omoide No Hate, Yuki Ha Furu' is really good! I had that one on repeat for days. If you interested in a taste of the songs that are on it you can check out DO Games page on the music CD where they have a sample clip of all the tracks. Because of the Kanji I could not translate the song lyrics to list them.... until now! Thanks to iTunes I was able to pop in my Kana ~Imouto~ Special Sound Album CD and get the track names, in romaji, by connecting to the internet music database. The lyrics for all the songs are also included, written in Japanese, in the little pamphlet-like thing that goes in the front of every CD case. Not only that, but there are a few new art clips in there as well that are not seen in game.
Released in 2005, 'Kana Okaeri Complete Music' is the second music CD released for the series, based around Kana Okaeri. It's 23 tracks full of tunes, though a good chunk of them are the exact same songs that are in Kana -Little Sister-. As it is, the first 16 songs on this CD are the exact same songs as on the original Kana Imouto game CD (which are red book music format so they work in a CD player), two are new songs with vocals, and the remaining five are the music tracks for the main songs minus the singing. Like the music CD before it, 'Kana Okaeri Complete Music' can be purchased from Amazon.com as well.
It is most unfortunate that Kana -Little Sister- falls in the category
of a Bishoujo game. Meaning that is it adult - you have to be over 18 years
of age to purchase it. That also means you will never see it for sale at
your local Walmart. Online purchase only. The audience that is allowed
to experience this game is going to be rather limited because of this,
which is a shame.
The
reason I say so is that Kana -Little Sister- is about a tasteful as a bishoujo
game can get while still staying adult only. Believe me, you will be playing
this game for the story more than the select few naked pictures. There
is no sex goals to achieve, sexual fairy magic, S&M, threesomes, rape,
scat, naked valkyrie's, Duke Nukem type big breasted women, ladies ready
to please you for rescuing them, or tentacles ripping off women's clothing.
If anything, the adult scenes in this game will give you a feeling of storyline
implication more than just something erotic.
Also, reading the different game descriptions around the web might imply to something incestuous. Blurbs like "Just how far are you ready to go for you little sister?" written on the sites selling this game, and on the box itself, might have you wondering just what kind of game I am writing about here. Without giving away storyline, I can tell you it's not quite what you think. Fate promises more twists before this drama unfolds, completely.
A lot of people would say this game would be just as great without any of the mature scenes in it. I would agree. However, I also know that if it had no adult scenes the game never would have been translated and nobody would have ever bought it, and that would have been a loss. You won't find anymore focus on the adult aspects of Kana Imouto on this site. Sure, my ISP would probably drop me - but mostly because it has so little to do with the game in general. As I said before, you don't buy this game for the nudity and that is not the point of view I am trying to promote here. If you were looking for information on the mature aspects of this game, you just read about them in the last three paragraphs.
I
don't know when Kana Imouto originally came out in Japan, but from web
hunting I found a lot of reference to Japanese fan sites. DO
Games even has a dedicated section called 'Kana Mail' that no other
game they have ever published has. I gave up trying to read it though when
I ended up at pages where I was downloading SNK files based on crude 8-bit
pictures of food. Japan obviously has a bigger fan base than we have over
here.
There was a G-rated Xbox version of Kana Little Sister that had been in hiatus for about 2 years. Panther Software was developing it for awhile. Unfortunately, the Xbox in Japan is about as popular as an Atari Jaguar is here in North America. So with one final post to their update topics, Panther Software declared they were canceling development on Xbox Kana Imouto. The old PC vs Xbox page, created back when the Xbox version was still expected, has been modified a tad to reflect on Kana Okaeri as well - so now it's more like 'PC vs Xbox vs newer PC'... sort of. Be ready for a meaty 2 megabyte picture download if you intend to go there. I've always wondered why Panther was trying to release this game for the Japanese Xbox, and I'll probably never know. But at least I won't have to buy an Xbox just to play one single game anymore.
On the up-side, a different version of Kana Imouto has already been released for the personal computer. "Kana Okaeri!" has been on the market for awhile now, and like it's predecessor is not G-rated. Although the storyline and music appear to be unchanged, the graphics have been modified around the now defunct Xbox design, and there's a lot of voice acting put in. At this time, Kana Okaeri is only available in Japan, so you might find it a bit tricky to find a copy even from an outlet that deals in imports. Be fluent in Japanese if you expect to read through any of it. Then again, could you always play the original Kana -Little Sister- alongside Kana Okaeri to understand the plot as it goes, storyline is still the same. I understand Windows 2000 or XP is needed to display the Japanese text correctly. Windows 98 users are going to see a bunch of periods and squares. I've be skimming through the game myself (I can't read it) and I must say it has been promising. I go into a little more detail on the comparisons page.

| This section contains spoilers! Best not read too deeply
until you have played the game through a few times. If you haven't played
the game yet, don't go in here. Not only might it give away things for
you, but you won't have the slightest idea what I am talking about anyway.
Pretty much everything in this part has something that will give away the
storyline, so I am putting it off in it's own little section.
If you don't own the game yet go to G-Collections first, buy it, play through it, then come back and read through here. Trust me on this. |
