CHUCK'S SPECIAL BOOK QUOTE
Excerpted from Piggyback Steno II
Copyright ©2001 by Chuck Boyer
World Rights Reserved
"Piggyback Steno: Stenocode appropriate for overlying (and replacing parts of) so-called conflict-free theories in order to make them more speed-potentiating to the stenotypist, a strategic requirement for intelligent realtiming. Conflict-free? A typewriter is free of conflict, assuming the typist knows how to spell. It is, however, too loud and too slow. Too slow? Of course. Which means it's not confllict-free after all. If you can't agilely keep abreast of the soaring utterances of floppy-tongued, babbling rhetoricians with uncivil overlaps, you have conflict. Having such conflict is assuredly not conflict-free. Any theory claiming to be free of conflict fails to be so when it sacrifices otherwise obtainable speed capacity on the altar of realtime compatibility. Too much attention given to computer readability at the expense of fingerability. Overstroking gar zu viel. Adroitness is lost. Brevity is lost. So is balance. Excessive effort in the stenoing. Too much struggle when further developing stenotypy skills as higher speeds required for competent realtiming are approached. Mind-boggling memorization. Exceedingly awkward. Too little respect systemwide reflected for intrinsic complexities of good--and bad--English. Ergo, too little freedom from conflict. Honteux! Rapid stenocoding ability is not a luxury. It is a must. It permits accuracy not achievable otherwise. Like the hobbled racehorse able to break out of the starting gate but unable to run, the new court reporter/captioner/stenoer who is saddled--burdened!--with a purblind, faddish, and finger-hobbling realtime theory is unable to run with the smart realtimer. Such design is decidedly not conflict-free, as the claim is so cavalierly, cheerfully, and confidently tossed about by realtime steno planners, promulgators, promoters, and purveyors. If you can't keep up, something has to give. That something is suitably termed accuracy. (Duh!)"

♥ TESTIMONIALS ♥
FROM SHORTHAND STUDENTS AND REPORTERS
(Names withheld per Boyer privacy rules)
Communications received by CB Speedbuilders:

** I learned more from your Speed Clinic course in just two months than I learned in four years of reporting school.
** I was always too nervous to pass tests until working weekly with Karla's Concentration Power and Test Relaxation tapes.
** Chuck Boyer's soothing dictation voice on the Clinic Effective Practice speedbuilding tapes helped me to breeze through volume after volume on my way to passing the Merit exam.
** My deepest gratitude to both of you for sharing your knowledge and wisdom during a time in my career when I need it so much.
** I've tried every one of those so-called 100 percent computer-compatible theories. They haven't worked for me to write realtime with speed. Karla's encouragement that we design our own steno is the brainchild for the new millennium. Thanks for the permission and freedom to explore and invent!
** While my friends keep plugging away endlessly and following advice from the unqualified, my speed and accuracy have been soaring with guidance from CB Speedbuilders. I'm sorry I waited so long to contact you.
** My writing is evolving, and I'm loving every stroke of it. I feel so much freedom has been handed to me. Combinations that never even entered my mind are not only finding the way in, but they are free-falling onto my little fingers. What a fabulous breakthrough. I'm excited to see what will happen next.
** This Clinic bite has been a more wonderful and educational experience than I'd ever hoped it could be. Through the various assignments, exercises, practice sessions, and lifestyle disciplines, it has helped provide me with a foundation for solid writing skills, without which a successful and enjoyable career could never be realized. I've been both enlightened and educated about the processes--tangible and intangible, practical and emotional--that must be applied in order to become a competent stenographer, a capable businesswoman, and a better human being. Your sage advice and proven tactics have debunked the myths, mysteries, and misinformation so rampant in existing so-called "schools" and have made me feel, for the first time since theory class, that I'm truly learning a valuable skill, that I can be good at it with practice and proper direction on both a technical and an intellectual level, and that it can be fun and exciting instead of boring, stressful, and depressing. I had been wondering if I made the right career choice by pursuing this field. I don't have to wonder anymore; I know I am cut out for this type of work, and that certain knowledge will have a profound impact on my future. The positive experience I've had in this Clinic bite motivates me to work harder toward my goals, which I now feel confident are attainable. I feel closer to the students whose insights, experiences, failures, and successes were shared through class tapes than I ever did with any one of my classmates in school, and I know I'm not alone in my pursuit of excellence. I realize I am still in the process of learning to walk before I can run, and I look forward to experiencing and enjoying every step of the journey. My sincere thanks to both of you, Chuck and Karla.
** It's amazing how often you two guys hit the nail on the head. I feel as if the Boyer Speed Clinic has been created just for me. I like the way Chuck keeps hammering home the concept that the Clinic was created to benefit us and that we should take advantage of it.
** Chuck, your Time to Catch Up book is ingenious. I've uncluttered my entire life by following your suggestions. Now I'm caught up on my transcripts, caught up on my Speed Clinic weekly assignments, and caught up on the practice I've been doing to pass the RMR. Thank you for helping me to find more productive time in my day and for showing me how to use it well.
** How can I feel so excited and so terrified at the same time? Making a commitment sure can be scary. I know success will be so sweet. I just listened to the first Speed Clinic class tape, and now the real excitement is hitting me. I always had a feeling when I was going to school that something was missing--maybe it was instruction and guidance by people who knew what they were doing. After listening to Chuck and Karla on the tape, I know this is the best move I could have made.
** Karla's Finger Drills and Number Drills are a terrific and thorough workout on the steno keyboard. I thought I knew where all the keys are, but I was wrong! My hesitation is reduced tremendously. I have much more control and power in my writing. I've even built noticeable speed just from working on these drills.
** I have just received the Concentration Power tape and have listened to half of it today. It's made a profound impact on me already.
** After just three weeks in your truly wonderful Speed Clinic program, my notes look great! I could barely read them before enrolling in your workshop. And thank you for your continuing words of encouragement. I now have an organized schedule of goals.
** Karla and Chuck, you are the most inspirational speedbuilding gurus I could hope to have the privilege of meeting. There just isn't anybody else who comes close to your ability to teach. And to think that you are willing to share your combined wealth of knowledge and experience with me!
** During the dinner hour, I worked on Karla's Finger and Number Drills. I did as much as the time permitted, hoping it would help. Well, I was pleasantly surprised. When I went back to work after the recess, I experienced a flow in my writing due to relaxed fingers and wrists, and I was loving the fact that I was not missing a beat. I did not think it was possible with just one sitting of the drills to have such a changed writing attitude. I find the drills challenging, and in time I will master them without drops. I could not write the last set of numbers on the Number Drills tape, but I tried. I will continue doing the drills every chance I get, and I thank Karla for saving the day.
** I am enjoying the Speedbuilding Clinic. I really enjoy the Clinic Effective Practice methods. I look forward to practicing. I feel I have accomplished my goals, and I feel more relaxed after practicing through Clinic Effective Practice than when I used to practice through other methods which I felt left me tense and uneasy. I wish I would have known about this Clinic when I started court reporting school three and a half years ago. At first I was a little hesitant about signing up for the Speedbuilding Clinic, but a student gets tired of hearing an instructor say things like: practice, practice, practice; the faster you read back your notes, the faster you will write; or when students aren't passing takes, it's because they are not reading their notes. Well, I did all of the above, with very slow progress and sloppy notes. I would even try going to the courthouse because I felt that I would eventually reach my goal if I would take down fast material. Well, three and a half years later, I'm living proof that the methods my instructors told me, and going to court writing on my machine at such a fast pace, trying to keep up with attorneys who were probably talking at 260 or above--believe me, it doesn't work! I appreciate what you all are doing, and I wish there were more people like you in court reporting schools across the United States.

** I can visualize Karla's graceful, strong, and deft writing style just from listening to her colorful and detailed descriptions. When it comes to the poetry of language, nobody says it better than Karla. Her words dance on my brain like encouraging little fairies showing me the light-filled way toward success.
** I just finished Karla's Finger Drills. Wow, what an eye-opener this was! You think after nine years of reporting that you know where the keys are. I definitely need this twice a week.
** Two reporters I met at the recent CSR exam highly recommended Karla's tapes to me. They had each used the Test Relaxation and Concentration Power and claimed that that had made an enormous difference when they took the CSR exam that day. Both of them passed this time. Based on the praise of those now-certified reporters, I'd like to purchase all six of your audiocassettes.
** Karla, I am in receipt of your Concentration Power tape. I have enjoyed every minute of it and feel that you have done an outstanding job in producing it. On further occasions I expect to derive even more benefit from it. Your education certainly has done much to hold you in good stead in the reporting profession. You are a remarkable lady.
** The Speed Clinic dictation tapes are the best thing that's ever happened to me. At first I was a resister, a doubter, suspicious. I thought, my goodness, this is so expensive! But as I went through the speedbuilding tapes as directed, I realized your program is incredible. Now I love the way my outlines look on the steno paper. This is my contribution to art!
** Karla, your Number Drills are phenomenal. The variety and balance are perfection. My brain gets a nice healthy buzz from working with your ingenious format. Thank you for contributing to my mental health and my steno health. Now I can write any group of numbers, any legal citation, without hesitation!
** I've particularly enjoyed hearing the comments sent in from other Speed Clinic participants' experiences. In this process of speedbuilding we have all undertaken, it helps a lot to have input from fellow speedbuilders. Most importantly for me personally, I can feel the positive, uplifting structure of the Clinic.
** Today was one of my best writing days in ten years as a court reporter. I did my daily preliminary work of Karla's Finger Drills before going into the courtroom. I wrote beautifully all day. The spoken words simply flowed as they should, and I was present with my writing--we were one. As a beginner with CB Speedbuilders, I am encouraged that at this early stage my writing has already improved.
** Thanks, Chuck and Karla, for all your superb help. I look forward to continuing my speedbuilding with you. I have seen improvements in myself so great and strong that I can't stop now!
** School was supposed to make a court reporter out of me, but I felt betrayed. I didn't know how to reach my goals, and the teachers could never tell me how to do it either. I didn't feel smart, energetic, or creative. I just felt like a failure. I practiced as hard as I could every day, but without making any noticeable progress. Then CB Speedbuilders handed me the lifeline. Thank you for being there for me.
** I have heard some wonderful comments from a few of the students at my school who are currently enrolled in your Speed Clinic. They have become very enthusiastic and excited about the court reporting profession and have seen significant improvements in their writing since enrolling with you. I look forward to beginning your program as soon as possible and sharing in the excitement of my fellow students currently enrolled with CB Speedbuilders.
** Karla and Chuck, I very much appreciate all that you do and all that you have done in the Speed Clinic. The hands-on machine work makes the machine come alive and new dimensions occur. Even though I already thanked you, I feel compelled to comment even further. Your styles and personalities are very much appreciated. For me you bring accountability as well as challenge to continue to be better at this profession.
** Thank you for your last Clinic. It recently occurred to me that I might be ready now to rejoin school to pass the final qualifiers to sit for the CSR. I checked out a new reporting school, which I liked better than my previous one. After the second week of sitting in at the new school, I had to make a decision. I could waste my time and money going to school to play at speedbuilding, or I could keep doing what works--which is CB Speedbuilders. I was looking for a sign. I started reading my JCR magazine, and what should I see but Karla's beautiful face smiling at me from the page. I was reminded of her wonderful skills and accomplishments, and I felt very proud to be a participant with CB Speedbuilders, fortunate to hear her wonderful sharings on the class tapes. That cinched it for me then and there. I knew what my route would be.
** The most important thing I learned from Chuck and Karla is that I don't have to work myself to death to see results. At first I couldn't imagine how I could achieve anything with so little time on the machine. When I was in school, I worked to exhaustion--with few discernible results--because I actually believed what I was told there. I became angry over all the time and money I've wasted in a reporting school which provided me with no guidance, no specifics, inadequate staff, no organization--nothing except the rule to practice, practice, and practice some more. I knew I was inadequately trained, but I had no idea how poorly prepared I was until now. With CB Speedbuilders, I finally have in my hands the tools to help myself with skillbuilding. I've learned more in just two weeks with you than in 15 months at an approved school. I have nowhere to go but forward, and I can't wait to keep going!
** Your Effective Practice program gives me a positive, satisfied feeling. I think it results from increased control, identification of specific problem areas, and the tools for mastery of new outlines with both accuracy and speed.

** Thank you, Karla and Chuck, for a very enjoyable two months. I've learned quite a lot about myself, you two, life, and reality. I can see that you truly love helping others. And you do it so well! I've received the gift of learning how to practice effectively. I'll be taking your next workshop for even more of your instruction and guidance.
** The refrain that a court reporter should write automatically is one statement that has always puzzled me. Now that I've heard the Boyer experts proclaim this to be one of many common myths, I feel much better about my future. My new knowledge will help me with misstrokes and other uncertainties in my writing and transcribing.
** Thank you for making your course available to working court reporters like me as well as to students. You are giving me encouragement, a sense of direction, and a newly found justified confidence, to use Karla's term, in my ability to improve my writing skills. I am excited by your Speed Clinic and the much-needed support and guidance you offer. Again, thank you so much!
** CB Speedbuilders, I was so thrilled to discover that your Clinic Effective Practice dictation tapes are completely unlike any other dictation provided in school or available on the market--by way of both content and design. Karla's personal selections for me were right on target. How does she do that? Such efficiency and magic as I have never seen before!
** Chuck and Karla, I think you two are the most generous people our profession has ever seen. Please accept my heartfelt gratitude for all of your amazing contributions. I could not have survived without you. Your kind spirit toward your Speed Clinic students and reporters is evident in all of your classes and intriguing assignments. I hope you will both be around for a long, long time. Karla, keep wowing them at the Speed Contest!
** Thank you for coming to my aid. You've changed my whole outlook on practicing and court reporting in such a positive way!
** I first contacted CB Speedbuilders two years ago in sheer desperation to pass my 160 tests. I passed out of my 160s shortly after my Speed Clinic bite was finished. When I first enrolled with you, I didn't know what to expect, because I wanted your secrets, shortcuts, anything to get out of school as fast as I could. I can honestly say that I only participated to a minimum, and I did not really listen with any sincerity to the valuable information you offered. My attitude was: Yeah, yeah, just help me pass my tests. Talk about denial! I was cleaning out my closet the other week and came across your tapes from my bite. I couldn't believe it. It was like taking the Clinic over again. I have played all of the class tapes three times over, and I can't believe the enormity of information I have taken in. In the four years I have been in school, I have heard so many contradictory statements. It's mind-boggling. I have sacrificed so much to become a court reporter, and time has become crucial. I want to get on with my life and career. I have never been more serious about speedbuilding, and I will do whatever it takes to accomplish my goal. I am through resisting, and I come to you this time for encouragement, advice, and guidance. I look forward to learning with you and giving it 100 percent.
** Thank you, thank you, thank you! What else can I say? The Boyer Speed Clinic is one of the best things I've ever done for myself. I really appreciate all of the time and effort you both are putting into these courses. It is so special for you to be helping so many people, some of whom do not even wish to help themselves. I have never had half of the kind of help that you have given me. Even more important to me, you both are so encouraging. Who wouldn't do what you're teaching when they see what great accomplishments you have achieved? I hope someday I'll be up around your level. I know you will both get a great reward for all you are doing for others! I love your inspirations! You're beautiful people.
** I must take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude for your extending yourselves and providing such a service to me. This is my first bite, but what I have learned in the last three weeks has been more than what I have learned in the last year in school. The information is so powerful and truthful. I have just recently dropped out of school, and I plan to make the CB Speedbuilding Clinic my quest for success. For the last year and a half, I've been quietly sitting back, wondering if I was getting it all in school. I had serious doubts on and off. But, like most, I thought that things were going just the way they wanted them to go. And that was my problem. What the school wanted for me and what I wanted for me were two different things. I want to accomplish my goals in the shortest length of time possible, and CB Speedbuilders is the answer to my silent prayers. I feel that I have made a promising decision in my life. I trust that the outcome will be more than I ever expected. Karla's Finger Drills are marvelous. I believe that you both truly know what you're talking about. And, believe me, I pay close attention to people who have attained what I hope to attain. Thank you again. I know that success is inevitable with CB Speedbuilders!
** Karla, I'd like to order three more sets of dictation. I passed five takes already today, and it's only lunchtime. I'm doing so well. I love this!
** Karla and Chuck, I want to thank you both for creating the Speed Clinic. It's the answer I have been searching for to help guide me in obtaining my dream.
** Karla and Chuck, I'm glad I found you. You are the only people I know with so much stenotype integrity. Together with the Speed Clinic and Karla's Finger and Number Drills, there has been substantial progress. Love you.
** The greatest gifts are gifts from the heart. Over the past five years, people would ask me what I wanted for the holidays. The only thing I truly wanted was something no one could give me--to do well in school, move up a level now and then, and eventually graduate. You guys made my wish come true, and you gave it to me. You really are the dynamic duo. I hate to say it, but I think that ego would have stopped a lot of people from doing what you've both done for us. But you guys are good and don't have to prove anything.
** My heartfelt thanks to you both for a wonderful, imaginative Speed Clinic. I've thoroughly enjoyed my first bite. With all the information contained in a few weeks, I could probably work on digesting it for the next six months.
** It's amazing to me, after only a week with your dictation tapes in combination with Chuck's EP Log, how much confidence I've gained in my writing and steno notes. When doing difficult takes, I've discovered fewer fingering errors than anticipated! I look forward to many new discoveries in my writing to gain speed and accuracy quickly.
** Chuck and Karla, you have already given me the motivation to be committed to reaching my goals. I had gotten through school and was one of the best in the class--only to find out that my notes were totally sloppy when I got into the work environment because of the way I was taught in school. I was never writing in control and have been suffering ever since. Before I recently started the Boyer Clinic, I would have been satisfied with just becoming an RPR, but now I want to keep going and going. Thanks for your encouragement and sound advice.
** Thanks so much for the assistance you've both provided in the workshops. The knowledge you've passed on to me and others is priceless. It's time I pick myself up, dust myself off, and come out swinging once again after a rough time in my earlier training. Victory is within my reach.
** I am not returning to the school I've been attending for three years. I feel that they've been doing me more harm than good. I am pushing 50 years of age. The director at my school told me on my very first day that it would be harder for me because I'm older, that the reflexes of older students aren't quick. I love what you have to say about the older students. We do have a lot to offer.
** Karla's Finger Drills are terrrrrific. I'm still cleaning up my practice methods I was taught in school, but I'm not a quitter. My husband and I are both happier since I've been taking your course. I can't find words enough to tell you what your Clinics have meant to me. I listen with amazement when Chuck reads homework from other participants, too. Thank you for being there. I can see an improvement in every aspect of my life.
** Send me the next volume up, please. Up, up, up we go. And the skills just keep on building. Thanks for everything.
** Karla, my husband gave me some money for new clothes, but I said I'd rather order more Boyer dictation. Please send me three more sets.
** You have given me new hope, more motivation, and finally progress. Thank you so much!
** Chuck and Karla, I can't begin to tell you how happy I am with your Speed Clinic. After only one week with you, I've passed two 180 QAs I've been trying to get for the past 11 months. Taking your course is like finding a lost treasure. I give the two of you the credit for my achievement this week. I know it happened because of what I've learned so far from you. I'm really excited now.
** Karla, you are a great inspiration to me. Although you are exceedingly talented, you don't settle for less than what you know you can do.
** Karla, your Finger Drills are phenomenal. They are dramatically better than all other drills and exercises on the market. I've tried every one, from every vendor. Thank you for your generosity in offering such a useful resource for both students and reporters.
** I am working with Chuck's Piggyback Steno. When I sit down and start incorporating the processes into my brain, it works. My brain delights in it. Steno becomes smoother, no glitches. The nervous system responds with enormous pleasure. I find this astonishing. I really cannot get over the fact that, given the right approach, my brain just smoothly incorporates what I so badly want it to assimilate and use.
** I find that the Speed Clinic work I have done over the past couple of weeks has given me a deeper appreciation and understanding of what you are saying. This course is rewarding in an ongoing way because it has layer upon layer to plumb--perhaps I should say layer below layer. It's endlessly rewarding, like an archaeological dig or a piece of genuine literature.
** In returning to participate in the Speed Clinic again after having been away for six years, I'm thinking about the Clinic in terms of marriage. I laughed about this, considering we've been separated for six years, but, yes, this marriage can be saved. I have to think of the Clinic in these terms, not only to give myself a Chuckle (tee hee), but to remind myself that this is something I have to work at, something that is worth working for. I'm very happy to be starting my graduate studies at "Steno State." That's how I like to think of the Clinic. I'm a natural-born student. I love to learn. I really like the structure of the Clinic. I feel energized, and I'm embracing the intent of the Clinic to be creative and insightful. I have a lot of skills and a lot of contributions to make. When I originally started taking the Clinic, I wanted to pass my RPR. I did it. I've subsequently earned my RMR and RDR. My next goal, the final frontier, is to write at CRR proficiency comfortably. I have a goal in mind. I can do it.
I've been both enlightened and educated about the processes--tangible and intangible, practical and emotional--which must be applied in order to become a competent stenographer, a capable businesswoman, and a better human being. Your sage advice and proven tactics have debunked the myths, mysteries, and misinformation so rampant in existing so-called "schools" and has made me feel, for the first time since theory class, that I'm truly learning a valuable skill; that I can be good at it with practice and proper direction on both a technical and an intellectual level; that it can be fun and exciting instead of boring, stressful, and depressing. I had been wondering if I made the right career choice by pursuing this field. I don't have to wonder anymore. I know I'm cut out for this type of work. And that certain knowledge will have a profound impact on my future. The positive experience I've had in this Clinic bite motivates me to work harder toward my goals, which I now feel confident are attainable. I feel closer to the students, whose insights and experiences--failures and successes--were shared through class tapes than I ever did with any one of my classmates in school, and I know I'm not alone in my pursuit of excellence. I realize I am still in the process of learning to walk before I can run, and I look forward to experiencing and enjoying every step of the journey. My sincere thanks to you, Chuck and Karla.
** It's very easy to see why Karla calls Chuck a "stenoscientist extraordinaire." He is clearly a shorthand genius. I'm so grateful for the amazing help he provides in the machine work on the Speed Clinic class tapes and CMW tapes. I know this is not available anywhere else! And Chuck's S:M:A:R:T Realtimer original volumes and Piggyback Steno volumes are absolutely unique and endlessly useful. I think we should call Chuck Boyer a "stenogod" from now on!
** Thank you again for your inspiration and commitment toward helping others attain higher speed and accuracy in the court reporting field. I must say that this was a difficult Clinic for me because of my work constraints, but I feel really proud that I stuck with it and have now completed my second Clinic. When I think about how long you have been providing this service, it amazes me that you continue to be so encouraging and inspiring. I look forward to enrolling in the next Clinic.
** I'm a working reporter with all 250-plus-page rush jobs. I want to learn to write cleanly to cut down on editing time. I need to write faster and cleaner. I was just about to give up on my skills, and considered myself an ordinary, mediocre reporter skillwise, when I listened to your tapes and did Karla's Finger Drills. The improvement in my writing was noticeable. I know there will be a huge improvement when I get to spend more time at it. Thank you for showing me in the Speed Clinic that there is an answer after all. I thought I'd exhausted all avenues of ever getting better or even good enough. I have more books and tapes and have been to more realtime seminars than anyone around. They weren't useful. I'm not a natural, but what you guys say makes sense to me.
** Karla, Chuck, many thanks for another exciting learning experience. A big handshake and congratulations!
** Today I wrote "graphics" as clear as could be, without shadows. I attribute this to Karla's Finger Drills and the type of material I have been practicing through the Speed Clinic. The opportunities for learning how to shorten the way I write through syncopated writing are endless! I am coming up with new ways to write words almost every day. Because I am shortening the strokes with the principles I am learning from Chuck, I am not overwhelmed with brief forms to remember. It is very exciting!
** Anything worthwhile is worth my while. I know that court reporting is exactly what I want to do for the rest of my life! I know, especially now with Chuck and Karla's speedbuilding course, that I will be extremely successful. What I appreciate most about the speedbuilding tapes is that the lessons contained within are not just limited to steno but are directed to life itself. How much better can it get? Chuck and Karla, quite frankly, your attitudes reflect quite prominently through your tapes, and I find them to be very inspirational. I know that success truly is more attitude than aptitude, and, with the help of your awesome speedbuilding tapes, both my attitude and aptitude will reach higher and higher. Thanks, Chuck and Karla. I really mean it. Thanks ever so much!!!!! Thank you for your awesome tips, which are beyond compare. Enrolling in the Speed Clinic has been the single most wonderful thing I have done for myself.
** I appreciate the time and energy you have put into encouraging students and working reporters to improve skills and master the art of shorthand reporting. Thank you.
** I am very pleased with the change in my attitude during this Clinic bite after being abysmally neglectful during the last bite. My schedule lightened up a bit and enabled me to put in more time on Clinic assignments and effective practice work, and the benefits showed up immediately in my writing on the job. I am uncompromisingly grateful to Karla and Chuck for bearing with me and allowing me to continue to participate in the Clinic through thick and thin. I believe this bite will impact my future by giving me the impetus that I need to do even better in the next bite and stay on track for future improvement in my speedbuilding skills. I look forward to my continuing participation with CB Speedbuilders, which, through the encouragement, expertise, and instruction of Chuck and Karla, has made me not only a better court reporter, but a better person. Thank you both from the bottom of my heart.
** It was probably close to ten years ago when I ordered Karla's Finger Drills and first heard of the Clinic, and I thought of enrolling then. However, it seems that I had to hit "rock bottom" before finally acknowledging that I needed help; and hit I did! I had been practicing and practicing and seeming to get nowhere. I was about to tear my hair out. This Clinic bite has been a godsend. Finally I feel that I have an effective method for practice. The many tips given by Karla and Chuck and thoughts shared by other participants have been very helpful. They not only give direction for practice but also generate enthusiasm for improving and for court reporting in general. I am very grateful for the opportunity to participate in the Clinic, and I'm sure that the benefits will continue to show themselves in improved reporting into the future.
** Guys, you don't know what it's meant to me to be involved with you two. I've learned so much more in these past two Clinics than the time I was in school. You are truly wonderful people for helping the way you do. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything you've done.
** Like a passenger train with tracks leading straight to its intended destination, the Boyer Speed Clinic will lead me directly to my intended goal. When I first boarded this train, I could tell that this would be a different kind of ride, and it's proven to be an enlightening and encouraging journey. The conductors, the Boyers, have been friendly and informative and have helped me to make the most of my trip. True, I got off at the last stop because of experiencing a financial pinch, and I hated every minute of watching that train leave the station without me, but I continued to walk the tracks until the next stop and, when the next Boyer train to my destination came by, I happily hopped back on. Like many other passengers, I've experienced the expected ups and downs in taking what can sometimes seem like an arduous journey through the many hills and valleys, but the Boyers have carefully guided me through the rough spots, teaching me the skills to navigate through or avoid the pitfalls altogether. I can say, having ridden with the Boyers, I've learned more about myself and the world around me, and I'm grateful that I not only can look forward to reaching my destination, but I can look forward to every day of my experience in getting there.
** Karla, I recently purchased your Concentration Power audiotape and find it outstanding. It gave me a whole new awareness. Thank you!
** Karla and Chuck, I just received the sixth class session. I feel blessed to have found your Clinic. It is helping beyond my wildest dreams. Thank you again.
** Just when I think you won't be able to come up with something new and fresh for ongoing Clinic participants, you hit me with your mind-boggling take on the old, the new, the previously unimaginable. Thanks for proving me wrong again and again! There seems to be no end to your wisdom and your refreshing explanations and guidance. I am forever in your debt.
** Since this is my first Clinic with you, it's taking a little bit to get the hang of everything, but I must say I love the setup and I am so excited to be a participant. I plan to be a continuing participant in your Clinic. I think it's just what I need. My class at school isn't giving me the proper guidance. Being able to have two of the greatest steno champs as my teachers is a wonderful opportunity. I love your outlook on education and learning for the sake of self-betterment, and I am inspired by your achievements and knowledge. I am just all-around excited to be a participant. Thanks for doing what you do.
** Practicing effectively has been a goal, but in school I never knew how. I am finally seeing what it is to be effective while practicing and have a good solid structure to go by. This has been a great experience through my first Clinic, and I am saying it again after many times: I wish I would have done this two years ago.
** I thank God and the person who left a copy of the CB Speedbuilders ad on my teacher's desk. I took the last copy, and so began my journey with the Boyers. The Boyers have provided me with excellent tools to help me spring forward on my journey toward skillbuilding. With the aid of the Speed Clinic EP dictation tapes, my speed has improved and my writing has become stronger. Practicing and doing the homework assignments has given me a sense of exhilaration and accomplishment. The Boyers have taught me how to better myself not just in my shorthand writing, but also in my life as well. Having the Boyers as my coaches, I can safely say that I will win this game.
** I was glad for the participant sharing on this Speed Clinic tape. I really look forward to hearing the comments from others in the program. It's like having my own support group with positive feedback and knowing that I am not alone in what I'm thinking and experiencing.
** I love this Speed Clinic. I am proud to be in it. I am happy I am not in court reporting school. No matter how frustrating it gets at times, the arrival of a new class tape really inspires, motivates, and reminds me of the importance of this program. Thanks so much, Chuck and Karla.
** I am enjoying doing these Speed Clinic medical sprints. My school had eliminated the court reporting program before I had a chance to take my medical courses; so these tapes are really helpful for me. I'm hearing a lot of medical terms I've never heard before and getting to learn how to write them.
** I completed a set of literary sprints, so I am still on track. I had such a great practice day today, I decided to browse the CB Speedbuilders Web site. I spent quite a while reading many of the entries. I had gone through the gallery a few months ago, but my curiosity got me clicking around the site. Words cannot describe my amazement at the accomplishments of Chuck and Karla. I think it is great that Karla made the effort to include pictures and statistics of speed contests for all of us to enjoy. They are very fortunate to experience such success in their lives, and I really admire Chuck and Karla for their impressive achievements. I feel proud that I am a participant in their program. I appreciate the photo gallery because Chuck and Karla are sharing their experiences with us. The error lists are incredible, and yes, I agree that Chuck did turn in the first perfect paper at an NCRA speed contest. Today I spent the time to look at Chucktoons. They are terrific! I got such a chuckle (no pun intended) from them. They are a crack-up. I think that bringing our machines to life and imagining what they might say is a brilliant idea! I especially love the one about the "Zen nanosecond."
** As a student I am looking for ways to incorporate speedbuilding and realtime techniques to become a more accurate and proficient writer. I found your Web site to be one of the most educational tools I have come across in the field of court reporting.
** Karla, your kindness and perseverance are a testament to your dedication to us, the Speed Clinic participants, and again I thank you.
** "Encouraged to pursue...." The contrast between the CB Speedbuilders experience and that of my former school has suddenly come into sharp relief. In school we were not "encouraged" to do much of anything. Later it seemed that there was a surfeit of "DON'Ts" and a marked absence of "DOs." While it's critical to emphasize what to avoid, students also need to receive positive, constructive, proactive guidance. That's what I'm feeling in only two weeks of this Speed Clinic: guided, and with respect. In school it was always: "Don't do such and such, because I said so." In the Clinic we're provided with an explanation for why we shouldn't do something. In school, ask an instructor for advice on how to master a skill or avoid a problem, and more often than not the answer, if forthcoming at all, was dismissive or cursory. In the Speed Clinic, instruction and help are freely given and offered up front. It makes such a difference to have somebody at your side, pulling for you. Ah, yes, the substantial student loan bill that arrives at our house every month will seem even more annoying now.
** When I was in court reporting school, all they emphasized was speed, speed, and more speed. They clearly overlooked other very important aspects of speedbuilding which are covered so intensively in this Speed Clinic. I am truly grateful and honored that I have the opportunity to be a Clinic participant!
** As a shorthand writer turned voice writer turned shorthand writer again, I'm so glad I found you both, Chuck and Karla, to guide me through the challenging process of building up my speed and accuracy on the shorthand machine again and to so artfully help me reach a point beyond what I ever imagined I could achieve. You two are truly amazing, and I can't thank you enough for sharing your wisdom with me and with so many others. I wish you much happiness and success.
** When I decided, on Chuck and Karla's advice, to change from Phoenix Theory to something better, I bought both StenEd and Stenograph theories to help me. But the biggest help was Karla and Chuck's instruction on how to create a personal and individual theory using their principles of syncopation. This has freed me to be more flexible in my word outlines and general theory principles and has allowed me to create a theory which works best for my particular way of thinking and writing. I know this will contribute more than anything to my speedbuilding and accuracy in the future.
** There is dynamic interchange among Speed Clinic participants and insights on class tapes. Several participants make remarks about the effects Clinic work has in their overall lives and about the relevance of insights contributed by the Boyers and others. From my own experience and what others share, it seems our insights and experiences ricochet among all involved to penetrate our lives in many ways. It is genuine sharing.
** I just want to say thank you again to you, Karla and Chuck, for changing my life. I received my RPR certificate in the mail, and, although this is only the beginning, it felt as though I received a million dollars' worth of gold! I can't even describe to you how many changes have begun to unfold in my life now that I have passed my RPR. I feel I am starting a whole new chapter, and I am excited and I feel elated all the time. I hope I set an example for people in my life, to work hard for the things we want and to work intelligently! You have proven that your program is the best and only way to competent shorthand writing. If you can teach me well enough to pass the exam, you can teach anyone! I should be your poster child. I hope you, Chuck and Karla, know how much I appreciate everything that is involved in this Speed Clinic. Without this course and your teachings, I would never have passed the RPR. And I've learned that I have different things to focus on now that I have passed my RPR. Realtime is a new challenge for me, and continuing to work with CB Speedbuilders is going to help me pass my new goals of the RMR and CRR.
** The notion of steno science, as Karla has articulated it, is one I've been considering as I write and as I edit. Writing steno has become more exciting, more fluid, more creative. I love feeling I've approached my steno scientifically. I'm spending time and attention and energy on my writing style. I'm constantly investigating and experimenting and choosing and allowing different ways to write, all from taking this Boyer class! I'm so very glad I signed up for it!
** A while back, I would have said that there was no way I could make room for a course as demanding as this one, not with my busy schedule and the amount of work I need to crank out to pay for these children! What I've discovered is that the hard work demanded by your course is making the work "out there" in the real world much easier! Without a doubt in my mind, the lessons I am learning are paying out in the real world. I am suddenly aware of my confidence, my abilities, my poise, my excitement about writing, about being the best I can be! This course is really beneficial!
** After working with Karla's Number Drills and doing the Legal practice takes in the Speed Clinic, citations don't scare me anymore!
** I am THANKFUL EVERY DAY for your amazing course! Both of you are greatly appreciated for your guidance and methods, which are allowing me to see progress with my speedbuilding development.
** I am a working reporter and also have varied responsibilities. I am pleased to be able to say I have completed your program with this last submission of homework. I thought you would like some input from someone who was like a turtle but who did follow through nonetheless. I had found myself trapped for so many years in a writing style that I thought was serving me well, that I just needed to try harder; but it didn't work, and I felt defeated. This Clinic was a lot of work, no doubt about that. I am extremely happy with what I have accomplished. My writing is amazingly clean, and I look forward to going to work because I am no longer overwhelmed, but challenged. An enormous thanks to both of you for creating this Clinic, and for your obvious efforts. I would have never gotten to this place without you.
** I need to be good at what I do. I need to have pride in the work I do. Court reporting school was such a depressing place to be because school made attaining the simultaneous goals of being both accurate and a high-speed writer seem unattainable. You give me real hope--not just some faraway dream--that I can be an extremely accurate, high-speed writer who turns out excellent verbatim transcripts. I am still pinching myself. But when I read my notes and see how well I'm writing, I'm a believer. Your teaching has given me a new understanding of my machine and my interaction with it and how to work with it to get the results I want. I have a deeper concentration when writing that is somehow more energizing and less draining than the less focused concentration I used to have. "Writing" means something different to me than it used to mean. Crisper, clearer, surer, more confident, more focused are some of the words that come to mind.

Join us at any point in your skill development, from early theory on up. Choice testimonial received by CB Speedbuilders:
♣ Thank you, Chuck and Karla, for sharing your gifts and encouraging me to pursue my dreams. CB Speedbuilders has given me specific tools, but--even more than that--it has given me renewed hope. Thank you for believing in me even when I didn't believe in myself. ♣
Workshops are developed for the individual shorthand student or reporter not in any teaching or advisory capacity. No teachers, schools, libraries, groups, or businesses allowed. Additional restrictions apply at our discretion. No copying, lending, borrowing, sharing, selling, or giving to anyone else is allowable by us. Thank you for your professional understanding, cooperation, and compliance with our rules. No refunds. All Speed Clinic materials are offered for sole and exclusive use by the original individual participant legally registered with CB Speedbuilders.
Each CB Speedbuilders by-mail workshop bite lasts a minimum of two months. Every Boyer Clinic contains many differences from all previous Boyer workshop bites (no two are exactly alike). Materials are class tapes and dictation tapes (chosen for each participant specifically), including email and telephone privileges within reasonable limitations. Participants must order from CB Speedbuilders Karla's six supplemental audiocassettes at or before the time of registration. Additional items are available for separate purchase within the Speed Clinic environment. Commitment to follow through and compliance with all requirements are necessary elements to receive the entire course.
The format is "earn as you go." No auditing or sampling allowed. Respectful participation is required to earn class tapes and dictation tapes. Payment of the nonrefundable entry fee and our acceptance of individual registration affords the participant the opportunity to earn the workshop materials through full participation, following all rules. Integrity, honor, and trust in the Boyers are absolute essentials to succeed in our highly restricted environments.
Skillbuilding with CB Speedbuilders costs a fraction of the expenses incurred per year by those attempting to build shorthand skill through any other source. Skillbuilding with CB Speedbuilders is highly effective and comparatively very inexpensive, particularly in the absence of conflicting and damaging reporting school influences.
For general and specific guidance on speedbuilding and accuracy solidification--and so much more--we are happy to offer the Boyer Speed Clinic as a workable educational alternative to serious students and reporters who are determined to exercise their wonderful potential.
Be sure to also catch our fun Mythography page (link below).
Note: Our program is intended for the learner/writer of any theory system. But theory does matter. It is our expectation that every individual coming to the Boyers for help with building speed and accuracy desires to incorporate use of a viable shorthand theory. ALL of today's openly marketed realtime theories, NCRA-approved or not, present most of their writers with numerous problems which interfere with fine writing. Major corrective surgery usually is required for these theories to move toward viability. At the very least, a theory too bulky (such as Carol Jochim's Phoenix Theory) or a theory too brief-oriented (such as Mark Kislingbury's StenoMaster Theory) needs grand-scale tightening up and smoothing out by the average user who desires to build speed and accuracy at a rate faster than a turtle's pace. Theories too bulky or too briefed are not foundational theories and therefore offer very little in the way of substance, particularly for students and new reporters. Our opinions regarding the shortcomings in today's "official" theories have been developed based on the knowledge and expertise we have acquired during a long history of achievements in the realm of speedbuilding, realtime construction, competitive championships and records, and successful guidance and instruction of shorthand students and reporters.
We offer the straight dope on speedbuilding and test preparation.
Nobody does it better.
