| Want to know what's mind boggling? No, I'm not referring to the ending of this film—not yet anyway. What's incredible is the four-decade-old special effects. As far as space movies go, they are as good as anything we see today. The scene where Bowman pulls the plug on HAL is one of my favorites. Then there's the trip beyond the infinite that leads us to the conclusion. I haven't yet heard of a plausible explanation for the film's final scenes, but that's part of the film's charm for me. Did I mention the majestic soundtrack and perhaps the most memorable edit in cinema? If you have seen the film, you, too, remember the primate tossing the animal bone into the heavens. | |||
