| In early 1988, Brooke was a part of an orphaned litter of kittens in the Kutztown area of Pennsylvania. She was adopted by Dale, and one Saturday morning, this kitten got in Dale's Dodge and cried all the way to her new home; she always hated car rides! She lived nearly 20 years. | |

Brooke loved to eat (particularly turkey), loved to play with a laser pointer (“Sparky”) or string, and if you were sitting down swinging your leg, she positioned herself for a free backrub. On one unique occasion, Brooke came running into the kitchen meowing—sort of a 911 distress call to get someone's attention. Sheba, Dale’s younger cat, had accidentally got her neck caught in a window shade cord in another room of the house. Brooke's alert saved Sheba and maybe even saved her life. Several weeks before her passing and probably not in the best of health, Brookie was found with a small mouse in her mouth and was “playing” with it. A mouse had managed to get inside the house, and the best hunter known to man (the cat) had caught it. The joy Brooke had at that moment was obvious. She was named, in large part, because of Dale’s admiration of Brooke Shields at the time. Brooke is with Sheba now, playing together—probably in some tall grass and meadow overlooking the Rainbow Bridge. |
