Fargo South Bruins - Girls Team ![]() 1998, 1999 & 2000 State Champions Led by ND Coach of the Year - Diane Weisgarber |
The Bruin girls team have all six state players returning, along with seven others who played varsity golf for the Bruins last year. The Bruins had four different medalists last year at the 10 meets they competed in - It is Coach Diane Weisgarber's hope that all of her varsity players experience being a medalist at one of the meets during the upcoming season. Their goal is to break 300 in 3-4 meets during the season. Another goal is to have six players shooting 77 or better in upcoming meets and the varsity members shooting 86 or below. The Bruins have 42 young ladies involved with the Girl's Golf Program and they would like to see that number grow to sixty of more. Coach Diane says "this is a life-time sport that many players will be able to enjoy for the rest of their lives--it's not all about competition but the friendships and comaraderie they develop along the way which they all will find success and happiness". Sounds like the Coach is really stressing the right things for her team. It appears the Bruins have a strong team coming back to defend their 1998, 1999 and 2000 State Championships, take a look at these returning players: All-EDC - Erica Dahl, Ashley Anderson, Kelly Weisgarber, Merritt Brothen and Jeanna Dahl.All-Region - Erica Dahl, Ashley Anderson, Kelly Weisgarber, Merritt Brothen, Jenny Henderson and Erin Topley. All-State - Erica Dahl, Ashley Anderson, Kelly Weisgarber, Merritt Brothen, Jenny Henderson & Erin Topley. 2000 EDC Champion - Ashley Anderson 74 (New State Record). 2000 State Champion - Kelly Weisgarber 146 (New State Record). Congratulations on your last years successes and Good Luck to Coach Diane Weisgarber and the Fargo South Bruins during the 2001 High School golf season. |

|
Steve Weidner was head golf professional at the Fargo Country Club from 1975 to 1995. Steve graduated from the Univ. of MN-Duluth with a Business Administration Degree and at the time of his death was working on a Masters Degree at Moorhead State. Steve was golf coach at NDSU from 1982 to 1995. He was chairman for the FM Junior All-City Championship from 1979 to 1995. He was responsible for organizing and initiating the Eastern Dakota FM Junior Golf Association and the FM Junior Golf Tour (now Steve Weidner FM Junior Golf Tour). Steve's efforts created momentum to sustain junior golf in the FM area. A big smile would be on Steve's face when a junior golfer would share a "golf story" with him. Steve would be ecstatic at the growth of this tour. Play well juniors. |
