OTOL Big Apple RailFest 2008 Homepage

January 18-20, 2008

We had our usual winter OTOL event once more in the New York City area. Big Apple RailFest 2008 was another huge success. Sixteen people braved the cold weather to ride the subways in New York and commuter rail lines (and a little light rail) in New Jersey.

For our Friday activity, we rode some subways in Manhattan, Queens, and Brooklyn, some of which cannot be ridden on a weekend. We featured the G Crosstown Line, the V between Sixth Avenue and the 53rd Street Line, and the M between the Nassau Street Line and the Montague Tunnel.

Saturday's subway excursion this year featured some routes we have not yet ridden as a group, including the A line between Manhattan and Howard Beach, the E between Manhattan and Queens Plaza, the 2 line to Flatbush Avenue in Brooklyn, and the 4 in Manhattan between Bowling Green and Grand Central Terminal.

For our Sunday commuter rail day, we rode NJ TRANSIT's Newark Light Rail, the Gladstone Branch to Gladstone and back, and ended the day with a round trip on the Pascack Valley Line to Spring Valley, NY.
