Reunion Tower

We will try to enhance our visit to Dallas with a trip to the top of the Reunion Tower. It is located directly across the Union Pacific tracks from Union Station, and is part of the Hyatt Recency Hotel complex.

Until a few years ago, it was a free-standing structure. But when a new wing was recently added to the hotel, it encompassed the base of the tower.

Looking in Google, there are various websites that mention the Reunion Tower, but no official one was found. Depending on which website you peruse, the tower is either 42, 50, 51, or 55 stories tall. We will find out for sure when we get there! And it is by far not the tallest structure in the city; in fact there are 14 buildings higher than it. The tower opened to the public in 1978.

From the top, we should be able to see how the Union Pacific tracks (on which the TEXAS EAGLE normally runs) approach Dallas from both directions. The city of Dallas will of course be in the foreground. If it is a clear day, you should also be able to see the building complexes at Dallas Market Center, Las Colinas, and downtown Fort Worth in the distance.

Reunion Tower is a short walk from Amtrak, DART, and TRE at Union Station, through a pedestrian tunnel underneath the railroad tracks. It is open from 10 AM until 10 PM on the days we will be visiting. I mention this because you may wish to visit the tower at night as well as our planned daytime visit on Tuesday. Dallas is a spectaular sight at night with neon lights illuminating the buildings.

Admission is just $2.00 for adults, $1 for children.

It is suggested that we make this our last activity on Tuesday, since it is adjacent to Union Station. We should be back at the Amtrak station in advance of the 4:30 PM departure of the northbound TEXAS EAGLE.
