The Friday NJ TRANSIT commuter rail trip can utilize a round trip off peak fare. We will essentially be taking a round trip between Newark Broad Street and Hackettstown, with a one-way New York-Newark extension.
From any NJ TRANSIT ticket vending machine, purchase a one-way ticket from New York Penn Station to Newark-Broad Street. Then purchase a round trip excursion fare between Newark-Broad Street and Hackettstown. There is an option on the machine to change the origin point, so you therefore could make this entire purchase in New York City before boarding the first train.

If you choose to take NJT's Northeast Corridor Line, you will either have to purchase a one-way ticket from Newark to Trenton, or a one-way ticket from Newark to Philaelphia. The latter will actually produce two tickets, both on NJT stock: one for the NJT trip from Newark to Trenton, and the other for the SEPTA R7 trip from Trenton to Philadelphia. Round trip excursion tickets won't be valid because we are leaving during the evening rush hour.
From any NJ TRANSIT ticket vending machine North Jersey or New York, purchase a one-way ticket from Newark to Trenton or Philadelphia. There is an option on the machine to change the origin point, so you therefore could make this purchase in New York on Friday before we go to Hackettstown. Or you can wait until we are in Newark.
NJT's one way fare from Newark to Trenton is $9.25. SEPTA's one way fare between Trenton and Philadelphia is $8.00. So if you purchase the combined NJT/SEPTA ticket between Newark and Philadelphia, you will pay the total of those two amounts, or $17.25.

You will need to purchase a one way ticket from Philadelphia to Atlantic City, and a one-way ticket from Atlantic City to Lindenwold. If you will be returning from Lindenwold to Philadelphia on NJT, you will need another ticket between those points.
From any NJ TRANSIT ticket vending machine in South Jersey or Philadelphia, purchase a one-way ticket from Philadelphia to Atlantic City. Then purchase a one way ticket from Atlantic City to Lindenwold. (If you will also be using NJT between Lindenwold and Philadelphia, you can purchase a one-way ticket from Philadelphia to Lindenwold, as they are valid in either direction.) There is an option on the machine to change the origin point, so you therefore could make this entire purchase in Philadelphia before boarding the first train.

If you will be returning from Lindenwold to Philadelphia on the PATCO Speedline, your fare will be $2.45. Most likely you're not a frequent passenger and thus not a Freedom Smart Card holder, so you will need to purchase a paper ticket at the Lindenwold station for the above amount.

SEPTA now offers weekend round trip tickets, and this trip certainly qualifies. Our round trip to Elwyn on SEPTA's R3 line will take us to Zone 3 and will cost $8.00. You can purchase this ticket on Saturday morning from the SEPTA ticket windows at any Center City Regional Rail station (Market East, Suburban Station or 30th Street Station). The normal off peak fare is $4.25 each way, so you will be saving 50 cents.
