The base PATransit Rapid Transit fare is $1.25 for the Downtowner Zone, $1.75 within one zone, $2.25 for two zones, and $2.75 for three zones. One can purchase a transfer for $0.50 for a second ride.
A surcharge is added to the base fares during rush hour periods. This is in effect on weekdays from 6:00 AM until 9:00 AM inbound, and from 4:00 PM until 6:30 PM outbound. The surcharge is 25 cents in the Downtowner Zone, and 50 cents in Zones 1 and 2.
On this fest there should not be any trips in Zone 3. There also won't be any rush hour surcharges. Therefore a maximum fare of $2.25 will be paid on the light rail lines.
Any bus or light rail trips within the Golden Triangle (south of the Amtrak station and not crossing any rivers) are free at all times before 7:00 PM. After 7 PM the Downtowner fare is charged in this area.
The Downtowner fare is good on bus or light rail to both Inclines. However, the Inclines themselves are not in the Downtowner zone.
Fare zones on the light rail are defined as follows: Anywhere between the downtown Pittsburgh stations and Washington Junction is in Zone 1 (except the innermost portions in the Free Zone and the Downtowner Zone). Points south of Washington Junction on either branch are considered Zone 2.
Transfers are available for 50 cents, and are good for three hours from the time they are issued. They can be used when more than one vehicle (of any mode) is needed to complete a trip. The exception to this is on the light rail when one transfers between the Overbrook and Beechview Lines at Washington Junction. A free connecting transfer will be issued when going from one line to the other.
For the purposes of this fest, participants will be able to take advantage of a transfer when using the bus and Duquesne Incline in each direction, and when going between the light rail and the Monongahela Incline in each direction.
All base fares, surcharges, and transfers are available for approximately half the cost for children under age 12, and persons with disabilities during non-rush periods. Seniors with a Medicare Card under the age of 65 ride for half fare during non-rush periods. All seniors with identification ride for free during non-rush periods. Rush hour periods are defined as weekdays between 7:00 and 8:00 AM, and between 4:30 and 5:30 PM.
