The base fare on all RT light rail and bus routes is $2.00. A "Discount" fare is available for $1.00. Eligible for the "Discount" fare are Seniors ages 62-74 (Medicare card required), those with disabilities, and students ages 5-18 (Student ID required). Seniors age 75 and over get a Lifetime Pass, good for free travel throughout the system. Children under age 5 also ride for free.
A Daily Pass is available for 2-1/2 times the base fare. Thus is it $5.00 for adults, and $2.50 for those who qualify for the above "Discount" fare.
There is also a Central City Zone ticket, good for travel up to 2 hours within the downtown Sacramento area (bounded by Alkali Flat/La Valentina, 29th Street, and Broadway Stations). Any travel involving light rail stations beyond these three stations requires payment of the regular base fare. The Central City Zone ticket may be good for those of you who stay in downtown hotels that are too far to walk to/from the Amtrak station. It costs $1.00 for adults, and 50 cents for those who qualify for the "Discount" fare.
For our purposes, you should purchase a Daily Pass from a vending machine for our official tour of the light rail system on Friday, July 20th. In addition, you may require either a regular or Central City ticket to get from your hotel to Amtrak on Saturday morning.
RT fare instruments are not accepted on any other carrier.
As always, bring enough money to cover your meals.
