The adult fare on TTC is $2.75. Senior citizens 65 and over pay $1.85. Children 12 and under pay 70 cents.
Transfers between bus/streetcar and subway or between subway and bus/streetcar are free. In most cases, buses come into the paid areas of subway stations. Where they do not, a paper transfer is required; they can be obtained for free when the original fare is paid. The same holds true for transfers between two bus lines or two streetcar lines, or between bus and streetcar: Transfers are free, and they may be done without need for a paper transfer if it takes place within the paid area of a subway station.
Discounts are available for single fares, provided they are purchased in increments of 5. Five tokens or tickets can be purchased for $10.50; ten tokens or tickets can be purchased for $21. Either way, this translates to just $2.10 per ride. The senior citizen fare of $1.85 can also be discounted by getting five tickets for $7.00 or ten for $14.00. That brings down the cost to $1.40. And for kids, ten tickets can be purchased for $4.70, which makes a 70-cent trip cost just 47 cents.
For our group's purposes, it is suggested that we pool our resources and buy tokens in bulk once in town, so that we may partake of the discounted fare. If we ride as planned, one fare should suffice for our group activities. Add to this the transportation to your hotel Wednesday evening, and from your hotel to Union Station on Thursday morning.
Also offered is TTC's DayPass, which costs $8.50 per day. A DayPass gets you unlimted travel on any TTC subway, bus, or streetcar each day. This would pay for itself on the fourth entry into the system each day, either at a subway station or boarding a streetcar. There are two types of DayPasses, Single and Family:
| Single DayPass $8.50 | Family DayPass $8.50 |
|---|---|
| Single DayPasses are good for one person, and they are now valid all day, 7 days a week. This probably won't be economical for our group, unless anyone plans to make four entries into the system or ride on their own after dark like last time. | The Family DayPass is good only on weekends, and it can be used all day for up to 6 people (either one adult and up to five children, or two adults with up to four children). "Children" are defined as age 19 or younger. |
| Participants can buy the Single DayPass, if desired, upon arrival in Toronto on Wednesday afternoon. We won't be there on a weekend so the Family DayPass won't work for us. | |
We do not plan to ride any GO TRANSIT trains on this trip. However if you do, TTC and GO TRANSIT are entirely separate agencies, hence their fare media is not interchangeable.
