OTOL Toronto RailFest Itineraries

July 14-19, 2004

The main working itinerary that has been posted here since late 2003 is heretofore known as Itinerary B (as in Buffalo). This itinerary includes the Pre-Fest, starting on Wednesday, July 14th. Those who follow this itinerary will visit Syracuse and Buffalo, riding the OnTrack commuter line and NFTA Metro light rail respectively. They will board the westbound MAPLE LEAF at Buffalo-Exchange Street Station at 3:06 PM on Thursday, July 15th.

Some alternate itineraries have been developed since we have some people going by different routes and joining or leaving us at various times. You may wish to follow a shorter itinerary to save money.

Itinerary A was developed to allow participants to skip the Pre-Fest and proceed right to Toronto. This group will depart from New York City on the MAPLE LEAF on Thursday morning, July 15th. They will be joined by those following Itineraries B and C in Buffalo, when the latter board the same train.

Itinerary C (as in Chicago) is for people coming from the west, for whom a trip to New York City would be out of the way. This group would utilize the LAKE SHORE LIMITED in both directions between Chicago and Buffalo-Depew Station. They would depart from Chicago on Wednesday, July 14, and arrive in Buffalo on Thursday morning, July 15th. In Buffalo, they would take a bus downtown, and then join with Group B in riding the light rail line. Together with Group B, they will board the MAPLE LEAF at Buffalo-Exchange Street Station for Toronto.

All three groups would arrive together in Toronto, and proceed with the itinerary as it has been posted.

For the return trip departing from Toronto on Monday, July 19th, Group C will again have some time to kill between the arrival in Buffalo of the eastbound MAPLE LEAF, and the departure of the westbound LAKE SHORE LIMITED. These people can stay in Buffalo, or choose to ride with the other groups further east, to catch the LAKE SHORE at an earlier time. Syracuse would work fine, as there is a nearby shopping mall and a four-hour layover. The intermodal station there has restaurants of its own as well.

Groups A and B will return to New York City on the eastbound MAPLE LEAF. However, Michael and I will be detraining in Albany on Monday evening, staying there overnight, and will return to New York City on Tuesday morning. It is intended that we will take Train #250, which should have Turbo equipment. If there is interest in joining us, we can make another Fest option.
