OTOL Midwest RailFest 20XX brings us back to Chicago to ride the rails we have not yet ridden. We also will take a side trip to Minneapolis.
This and all future fests may be a victim of our economic situation. With my employment highly uncertain in the future, it may be difficult to find time to hold these fests as I start a new chapter in my career. While things may still work out, all specifics at this point have been removed so that people don't make irrevokable plans for something that very well may not happen.
Day 1 - Tuesday
Leave New York City on the westbound LAKE SHORE LIMITED. Sleep on train.
Day 2 - Wednesday
Arrive in Chicago. Travel from Chicago to St. Paul/Minneapolis on westbound EMPIRE BUILDER; arrive late night. Stay in Minneapolis.
Day 3 - Thursday
Ride Metro Transit's Hiawatha light rail line. Visit Mall of America. Ride Northstar line to Big Lake and back. Stay in Minneapolis.
Day 4 - Friday
Take eastbound EMPIRE BUILDER to Chicago; depart early morning and arrive late afternoon. Stay in Chicago.
Day 5 - Saturday
Activities in Chicago area include METRA UP-West Line to Elburn, and the UP-Northwest Line to Harvard. Stay in Chicago.
Day 6 - Sunday
Ride round trip on the South Shore Line to South Bend Regional Airport. The afternoon/evening activity is a round trip on METRA's UP-North Line to Kenosha, WI. While in Kenosha, we will ride the streetcar line. Stay in Chicago.
Day 7 - Monday
The day will start with an optional very early round trip to McHenry and back on METRA's UP-Northwest Line. Then we will ride the portions of the CTA system we have not yet ridden, including the Blue Line to Forest Park, and the Pink Line to 54th/Cermak. We will take the Blue Line to O'Hare Airport, ride the Airport Transportation System people mover on the Airport property, and then board the METRA NorthCentral Service Line for a round trip to Antioch. Evening departure from Chicago for Washington, DC. Sleep on train.
Day 8 - Tuesday
Arrive in Washington, and travel home.
