OTOL Rockies RailFest 2011 promises to be yet another great railfan event. We will ride transit in both Salt Lake City and Denver. To, from, and between them we will take Amtrak.
Day 1 (Monday)
Our journey will start with a trip between the East Coast and Chicago. Overnight on the train.
Day 2 (Tuesday)
Arrival in Chicago.
Board CALIFORNIA ZEPHYR to continue our westward journey. Overnight on the train.
Day 3 (Wednesday)
Travel all day. Late night arrival in Salt Lake City; overnight there.
Day 4 (Thursday)
Ride Utah Transit Authority's (UTA) TRAX light rail system, and UTA's new Front Runner commuter rail line between suburban Ogden and downtown Salt Lake City. Overnight same location as Day 3.
Day 5 (Friday)
Early morning departure of eastbound CALIFORNIA ZEPHYR. Ride across Rocky Mountains to Denver. Overnight there.
Day 6 (Saturday)
Ride Denver Regional Transportation District's (RTD) light rail system, as well as Platte Valley Trolley. That evening, board the CALIFORNIA ZEPHYR to continue our eastward travels. Overnight on train.
Day 7 (Sunday)
Arrive in Chicago.
Depart that evening for one more overnight rail trip.
Day 8 (Monday)
Arrive in our respective East Coast cities, and proceed home.
This is 8 days of fun and excitement on the rails!
