Law School Legal Clinics

New York City is home to nine nationally-known law schools, each of which operates one or more clinics offering free legal representation to eligible clients. While this may initially seem like a legal services bonanza, actually getting representation through a law school clinic can be complicated. Each law school, and each legal clinic, has its own separate eligibility requirements and legal agenda. You must therefore approach each law school, and each clinic, individually.

Many law school legal clinics accept cases only by referral, and are essentially closed to the public. Where known, that is indicated below.

Some law school legal clinics can be accessed by telephone only through the school's main telephone number. If you don't see a separate listing for the legal clinic, call the law school's main number, identify the clinic you are trying to reach, and ask the operator for contact information for that clinic.
