The time has come to endorse worthy candidates for the rapidly approaching May, 2006 Ohio Republican Primary. We start with two very fine choices: This is why Ohio Conservatives endorse Bob McEwen for United States House of Representatives, 2nd District of Ohio, and David R. Smith for United States Senate, in the May, 2006 Ohio Republican Primary.
We have followed the career of Bob McEwen for two decades. He was a stalwart Reagan man in Washington, as an articulate young Congressman. Then a victim of smears in a contrived scandal, he was caught in a bit of legislative Gerrymandering and lost his seat in Congress in the early 1990s. That was a sad loss, both for Ohio and America, for it had been understood among dedicated Conservative leaders, both here and in Washington, that Bob McEwen had a bright future. Indeed, Bob McEwen was one of the real hopes for Republican Conservatism in Ohio, because he could always be counted on to fight for, and articulate well, our traditional American values; the values that we elected Ronald Reagan to restore to the Federal Government.
Since Bob McEwen left office, America has drifted back towards all of the evils, Reagan was elected to eliminate--a drift which has continued, whether we had a Republican or Democratic Administration. That drift is why it is so imperative that we send Bob McEwen back to Congress. Bob McEwen can be expected to be his own man, to stand up for the principles that you and I adhere to; to do his part towards dealing with the threat to our institutions posed by the flood of illegal and unscreened third world aliens pouring over our Southern border; to deal with the out-of-control spending and increasing dependence upon Government. Bob McEwen will work to reverse that dependence, which most of us believe, as Ronald Reagan expressed so clearly, is the "problem," the cause not the "solution" for most individual distress.
Bob McEwen shows a clear grasp of the essential dynamics of how and why a free society works and succeeds better than any other. And he is not afraid to "stand into the breech," as it were to defend the way of life, which made all of the good things possible for all of us.
The need for Bob's return to Washington is further punctuated by the sad performance of the present Congresswoman. She claims that she, also, is a Conservative. At this web site, we understand something about American Conservatism, and it is very clear that she is no Conservative! She embarrassed us last year, when she insulted the patriotism and courage of a proven war veteran, rather than debate his position as a more rational Representative might have done. She makes a mockery of the very term Conservative, now, when she hires a notorious hearse racing class action lawyer, who happens to have been Bill Clinton's single biggest booster in Southwestern Ohio, to work with her against Bob McEwen. She also made a mockery of the term, when she served in the State Legislature, by voting for unreasonable tax increases.
We do not want to harp on the inadequacy of the present Representative. We recognized the fact that she has to be scripted, that she lacks any gift for spontaneous debate--absolutely essential for any member of a Legislative body--the first time we ever heard her speak. But sympathy for her inadequacy should not distract anyone from where our duty lies. For the sake of the District, for the sake of Ohio, for the sake of all of our fellow Americans, and the future generations of our people, it is essential that she be replaced.
Again, we whole-heartedly endorse Bob McEwen, a man whose time has certainly come, and urge every Ohioan to work for his return to the House of Representatives, in a capacity in which he once served so earnestly and so well.
David R. Smith is a relative newcomer to the ranks of political office seekers. But he is an articulate, dedicated young Conservative. He is now challenging a long-time disappointment to many Ohio Republicans, Mike DeWine, for the Senate seat that we believe DeWine has dishonored. DeWine recently joined the "liberal" chorus, calling for a continuation of the present disasterous attitude towards the flood of unscreened, third world aliens, streaming across our Southern border. In doing so, he displayed a total indifference to the interests, culture, history and lines of descent of the Ohio mainstream. We can no longer trust a man, who feels no true allegiance to those whose forebears worked with DeWine's own people to build our present society; no allegiance to those of us, whom he has betrayed a sworn duty to serve. The nature of a nation is in the lines of descent of those who share a common history, and common perceptions and values. This was well understood by the Founding Fathers, who created the Senate as a barrier to reckless and half-baked policies, of the sort DeWine has all too frequently embraced. And a man who does not understand the function of the United States Senate should have no place in that body.
While David Smith's candidacy, at first impression, may be a very great long-shot; it should be clear that every vote that he receives will be a statement of positive affirmation for preserving the America that those who frequent this Website believe in. We strongly urge your support for David Smith in every way practicable between now and the closing of the polls, on May 2nd.
We have now added other personal endorsements, but the focus should remain on Bob McEwen and David R. Smith. Bob McEwen and David R. Smith are true Conservatives without the compromising baggage that so many of our politicians, of the present era, carry with them. Again, at this Conservative Website, we unhesitatingly endorse Bob McEwen and David R. Smith, in the May, 2006 Ohio Republican Primary.
After much soul searching, we have decided upon the following two additional endorsements. In each case, we will let their own web sites speak for their candidacies. However, in the case of the Gubenatorial decision, a brief comment is called for:
Both the Blackwell and Petro campaigns have taken an ugly and misleading turn. For some reason, neither candidate seems to want to discuss real issues facing Ohioans. Each seems to rely more on verbalized tricks to disparage the other candidate, than to actually debate legitimate issues between them. We find this deplorable. Yet that said, Blackwell's charge that Jim Petro's opposition to the carelessly worded Marriage Amendment, in 2004, was somehow an indication that Petro supports something as ludicrous as marriage between people of the same sex, is too much to swallow. It is the purest demagoguery. There is absolutely no evidence that Petro--a good family man, who has done a very fine job as Attorney General--advocates any form of mock marriage. It is a vile calumny which should be repudiated.
A vote for Petro is a vote for the one whom we believe, from a combination of factors, to be actually the more Conservative candidate running for Governor. It is also a repudiation of Blackwell's new low in negative campaigning--a wholly unwarranted suggestion. Our choice for Governor of Ohio is Jim Petro. Please visit his web site>>
