The "Kinda-Sorta-Celtic" Quillow

I took all the quillow shots with our new (but bottom-of-the-line) digital camera so their quality is not as good as a scanned photograph's would be. To help you see the finished product, I scanned the fabrics I used in the quillow:

This page's background is the lightened scan of the black fabric used in the "negative space" of the quillow.

The construction of this pattern is really nothing more than a Roman Square block. The corners where the pattern turns took a bit of math (personal note to Pythagoras: "Thank you!"), but nothing a touch of Junior High mathmatics couldn't handle.
This quilt was machine pieced and quilted.

Just a close-up so you can see how things went together:

I was in such a hurry to get this sent (it was March already, and this was ostensibly a Christmas gift!) that I forgot to take a picture of the quillow in pillow form. You'll have to use your imagination and visualize the very center star having a red center and blue-striped "arms" on a tan background. The outer star was made using the black fabric, and the red-checked hearts were appliquéd onto the tan background.
The pillow was backed with lightweight sweatsuit fleece, and the quilt portion was backed in a lightweight tan twill.

If you'd like to copy my design, I have no problem with that. BUT, please visit this site first [Celtic Knotwork] and spend a few minutes learning how to draw simple Celtic knotwork. After playing around on your own, you'll probably come up with a design you like much more than mine!
