From Judy Martin's book: "Scrap Quilts". Machine pieced and quilted. Measures roughly 82" x 63". I made this for my Brother- and Sister-in-Law as their Christmas gift for 1997. Their decor is Colonial American, so I decided to stick to "Colonial Blue", whatever that was! I knew what color I associated with "Colonial Blue", but I needed to be sure so I polled the ladies and gentlemen who people the RCTQ newsgroup. Trying to verbally describe color over the Internet is an impossible and subjective task, but one clever woman came to my rescue and sited the DMC embroidery floss codes that belong to the "Colonial Blue" family. Of course! The DMC floss color code is universal! I raided my son's stash of DMC floss and took the appropriate skeins with me to the fabric store.
This page's background is a scan (lightened significantly) of the fabric I used to back this quilt.
The label is a pattern from Carol Doak's book: "Easy Machine Paper Piecing". I traced the pattern onto a used and much-washed sheet of dryer fabric softener. Using this as the foundation was easy (cheap!) and resulted in a label that was light-weight yet stable. The fabrics in the label are from the fabrics on the front of the quilt, naturally.
