Its time to take sheep to the fair. Although going to the fair seems like a lot of fun, it is really a great deal of work. That's because the sheep have to be clipped to look nice when they are shown. After the show lambs are selected, they are
trained to stand still during the show. They don't
like it at first, but they soon get used to it. Before the lambs go to the fair, their wool is
trimmed so that it looks smooth. Sheep with good
wool are not washed because it would ruin their
wool. Sometimes, their legs are washed. This is a big yearling ewe ready for the
fair. Sometimes even big rams are taken to the fair.
Notice that his horns are shiny. The lambs get to ride to the fair in a trailer.
It has plenty of air openings so they won't get too
hot. At the show, a judge then picks the best sheep.
Sometimes, the judge even judges the
exhibitors. |
