Irwin Corriedales

We have had registered Corriedales since 1988. We started our flock of Corriedales when our son, John, started FFA by purchasing two ewe lambs at the East Central Sale in Richmond Indiana. Later that fall we purchased some bred ewes from the Milligans at Hamilton, MO. We attempted to put together a group of quality Corriedales with strong breed character and good fleeces.

In 1989, we went back to the East Central Sale for a ram and were fortunate to purchase the Champion Ram that was sold by Ed Craig. Craig 603 was large for that time and his lambs had good breed character. Today, almost every Corriedale in our flock descends from these sheep.

Our first Corriedale ram, Craig 603 - Champion Ram at the 1989 East Central Sale. He got us off to a good start.

Irwin Natural Colored Sheep

In 1995, we set out to develop a flock of colored fine wool sheep. We started with some registered white Rambouillet ewes and crossed them with a colored Debouillet ram. Then we introduced a large colored Rambouillet ram (Hootie).

Hootie

Welsh 517, "Hootie", was purchased from the Tom Welsh family at the 1996 Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival. Out of a Mattos ram, Hootie was a most attractive variegated color pattern. Hootie's Yocom McColl Micron test proved that he has an extremely consistent fine fleece. Hootie sired attractive show lambs including our 1998 Reserve Champion ram at the NCWGA Regional Show at the Tulsa State Fair.

Perdie

HF 665, "Perdie", was our lead show yearling ewe for 1998. From Dean and Cathy Gerali's flock in Colorado, Perdie had a fabulously successful show season. Judges commented on the softness and luster of her gorgeous fleece. Perdie has the size, correctness and disposition we seek. She was Grand Champion ewe at the 1998 Missouri State Fair and at the regional NCWGA show at the Tulsa State Fair.

In just three years, our breeding program became one of the top fine wool show flocks in the midwest. In fact, we were Premier Exhibitor and won every group class at every show we exhibited at in 1997 and 1998 including the NCWGA Regional Show at the Tulsa State Fair. Since then, we have not shown as much and have offered our best to some great customers.

If you are looking for a flock with an early Voluntary Scrapie Program date, its probably ours. Our flock was officially inspected in November, 2000.

We had our entire flock blood tested for OPP in April, 2002 and we are pleased to announce that our flock is 100% OPP negative.
