JUNIOR BOWLERS TOUR TOURNAMENT RULES -- 2008-09 (Singles Events)

1. Junior Bowlers Tour tournaments are open to all male and female junior bowlers (21 years of age or less as of August 1, 2008) who have NEVER bowled in any competition where cash is offered as a prize. The 2008-09 Junior Bowlers Tour (JBT) season runs from September 1, 2008 through August 31, 2009 and any bowler who has not competed for cash prizes is permitted to complete the JBT season through the August events. Bowlers may choose to compete in either the scratch or the handicap division.

2.  FORMAT:

Handicap Division: Entrants will bowl five games across ten lanes in the qualifying round. 100% of the difference between the bowler's average and 200 will be added to each game. The top 40% of the field will advance to the semi-final round and will bowl three additional games. All totals from the qualifying round will be carried forward. The top five bowlers after the eight games will bowl the step-ladder finals. 100% of the difference in the bowlers' averages will be the handicap in the finals.

Scratch Division: Entrants will bowl five games across ten lanes in the qualifying round. The top 40% of the field will advance to the semi-final round and  bowl three match games. If there are five or more girls competing in the scratch division, a minimum of one girl will be among the 40% which advances to the semi-finals (if there are ten girls, at least two will advance, etc.) All totals from the qualifying round will be carried forward. There is a thirty pin bonus for each match game victory. The top five bowlers after the eight games will bowl the step-ladder finals.

3.  Entries will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. All entrants must be ready to check-in 15 minutes prior to scheduled starting time. Walk-in entries will be accepted at the tournament site as space permits. Please check starting time for the tournament(s) you have entered.

4. The entry fee for JBT members when pair prior to the date of the tournament is $35. Entry fee paid on the day of the event is $38 for Junior Bowlers Tour members and $39 for non-members. All bowlers entered in the tournament are eligible for scholarship prizes.

5. Plaques will be awarded to the top five finishers in each division. Scholarship prizes will be awarded based on the finals standings of each tournament. The first place prize of $100 is guaranteed in each division in all singles tournaments, with 25 entries or less in a division.  The first place prize will increase for each entry above 25 in a division. At least one scholarship prize for every six entries will be awarded with a minimum of five prizes in each division.

The JBT CHAMPIONS LOYALTY BONUS will award an additional scholarship prize to the champion for each consecutive tournament he/she has bowled in that conference prior to his/her victory. See complete explanation below.

ENTRY CREDIT POINTS will be awarded to bowlers for various accomplishments at each event. See complete explanation below.

6. Proper dress and behavior is expected of all participants. Bowlers are NOT permitted to wear hats, sleeveless shirts, clothing with offensive language or graphics, or any apparel which the tournament director feels is inappropriate. Collared shirts are strongly suggested. Shorts are permitted in JBT events. Smoking is not permitted by JBT bowlers BEFORE, DURING or AFTER the tournament. Any bowler who uses foul language, makes obscene gestures or abuses equipment will be subject to disqualification, as determined by the tournament director. Any bowler who fails to put forth his/her best effort at all times during a tournament may be immediately disqualified, at the sole discretion of the tournament director. Only those bowlers who are still in competition, scorekeepers and tournament officials will be permitted in the settee area.

7. AVERAGES: Bowlers are to submit the higher average of: 1) his/her current league average for 15 games or more, or 2) his/her highest final league or JBT average for the 2007-08 season. Bowlers will use their current JBT average after they have bowled 21 games in JBT competition, providing it is higher than their entering average. Those who bowled less than 21 games in JBT competition in the 2007-08 season will be re-rated (prior to each tournament) by splitting the difference between their entering average and their current JBT average; if the re-rated average is higher than the entering average, the re-rated average will be used. Additional re-rating of a bowler's average may be done at any time at the discretion of the Junior Bowlers Tour. Bowlers who have not competed in a JBT tournament in 13 weeks or more are required to re-submit their average as if they were a first-time bowler.

8. All rules not specifically covered will be governed by the rules of the Junior Bowlers Tour and the general rules of bowling. The tournament director reserves all rights regarding all rules decisions and the operation of the tournament.

JUNIOR BOWLERS TOUR MEMBERSHIP / DISCOUNT CARD: Bowlers may obtain a Junior Bowlers Tour membership for $25.00. All members will receive a set of Junior Bowlers Tour coupons with a value of approximately $150. JBT membership is valid through August 2009 in all conferences of the JBT and will entitle members to up to a $4.00 discount in each regular singles event as described in Rule #4.

JUNIOR BOWLERS TOUR POINT SYSTEM: Point standings for all bowlers who compete in the JBT will be computed to help determine season-end award winners and to determine eligibility for special JBT Tournaments. All bowlers will receive 8 points for each tournament in which they compete. Additional points are awarded based on final position finish as follows:

All bowlers must compete in a minimum of FIVE JBT tournaments (total, all conferences) during the season to be eligible to compete in any Invitational Tournament.

SPECIAL EVENTS: During the course of the season, various special events (with larger scholarship prizes) are conducted by the Junior Bowlers Tour. Eligibility for these events is determined based on accomplishments and/or participation in JBT tournaments throughout the season. Eligible bowlers will receive notification of these events.

SUPER-BRACKET RULES

1. This is a weekly event which will qualify bowlers to participate in the season-ending roll-off to determine scholarship winners.

2. Scratch and handicap competition will be held during each Junior Bowlers Tour singles tournament. Bowlers may only enter the Super-Bracket in the division in which they are competing that day.

3. Entry fee is $3.00. Bowlers will be randomly distributed to determine opponents in one large match-play bracket for each division. Beginning with the SECOND game of the tournament, entrants one-game score will be compared to their opponent's score. Handicap division bowler's scores will include handicap. Winners will advance to face another opponent in the next game, until one overall winner in each division is determined.

4. In each division, one qualifier (with 16 entrants or less) will advance to the FINALS of the Super-Bracket Tournament. One additional bowler will qualify for every 8 entries beyond 16.

SUPER-BRACKET FINALS

The finals of the Super-Bracket Tournament will be held on the Saturday night of the 2007 JBT Challenge Tournament, after all bowlers have completed their qualifying rounds. Since both divisions will be competing at the same time, if any bowler has qualified for the finals in both divisions he/she must choose which division's finals to enter.

All bowlers who have qualified one time for the finals will randomly draw for opponents and bowl a one-game match, with the winners advancing and the losers being eliminated.

The winners will then be joined by the bowlers who have qualified for the finals twice. They will randomly draw for opponents and bowl a one-game match, with the winners advancing.

The winners will then be joined by the bowlers who have qualified for the finals three times. They will randomly draw for opponents and bowl a one-game match, with the winners advancing.

The winners will then be joined by the bowlers who have qualified for the finals four time. They will randomly draw for opponents and bowl a one-game match, with the winners advancing.

The winners will then be joined by the bowlers who have qualified for the finals five times. They will randomly draw for opponents and bowl a one-game match, with the winners advancing.

The winners will then be joined by the bowlers who have qualified for the finals six times (six is the maximum). They will randomly draw for opponents and bowl a one-game match, with the winners advancing.

The winners will then randomly draw for opponents and bowl a one-game match, with the winners advancing. This will continue until either two or three bowlers remain (this will depend on how many bowlers compete in the finals). If two bowlers remain, they will bowl a one-game match to determine first and second place. If three bowlers remain, they will bowl a one-game match to determine first, second and third place.

Approximately forty scholarship prizes will be awarded in the finals of each division. The first place scholarship prize in each division is GUARANTEED at $500. The estimated total scholarship prize fund for this event is $5,000.

CHAMPIONS LOYALTY BONUS PROGRAM

1. The Champions Loyalty Bonus Program allows each regular singles tournament champion to earn additional scholarship winnings based on their participation in previous JBT events.

2. All champions earn a $100 scholarship for first place and will receive an additional $5 scholarship for each consecutive tournament they have bowled prior to their victory.

3. For example: If the champion of a tournament has competed in the previous five JBT singles events, he/she will receive a Loyalty Bonus of $25, bringing a first place prize of $100 to a total of $125. If the champion of a tournament has competed in the previous ten JBT singles events, he/she will receive a Loyalty Bonus of $50, bringing a first place prize of $100 to a total of $150.

4. The consecutive tournaments bowled statistics will be maintained for each bowler and in each of the JBT conferences separately. Bowlers may earn a Loyalty Bonus up to a maximum of $100 (20 tournaments), which would bring the total first place prize up to $200. The number of consecutive tournaments bowled will be carried over from season-to-season.

5. When a bowler earns a larger first place prize due to a Loyalty Bonus, his/her consecutive tournaments bowled (and therefore Loyalty Bonus) DOES NOT END. This means that if a bowler wins a tournament worth $150 due to their Loyalty Bonus, the following tournament in that conference would be worth $155 if that bowler wins again. The first place prize DOES NOT revert back to $100.

ENTRY CREDIT POINTS

Entrants at each JBT singles event will have the opportunity to earn ENTRY CREDIT POINTS. These points can be used to reduce (or completely pay) the entry fee at selected end-of-the season tournaments. There is no additional charge to be eligible for Entry Credit Points and all bowlers competing in an event may earn points as follows:

1) All bowlers who finish in the top five positions (in each division) will earn TWO Entry Credit Points.

2) The tournament leader after the five-game qualifying round (in each division) will earn TWO Entry Credit Points.

3) Bowlers in the Repeater Bracket (information below) will earn points as follows: Repeater Bracket winner - FOUR points, Runner-up - TWO points, third & fourth place - ONE point each. These points will also be awarded in each division.

Additional opportunities to earn Entry Credit Points may be made available at various times throughout the season in other events.

ENTRY CREDIT POINTS may be used towards the entry fee of the Junior Bowlers Tour Las Vegas Open, The JBT Challenge Tournament and the Buddies Pro Shop Open. Each point will have a value of $5.00 towards those entry fees. There is no limit to the number of Entry Credit Points a bowler may accumulate during the season and it is possible that all three of the above tournaments may be paid in full with these credits. Entry Credit Points have no other value than to be used as credit for these events.

REPEATER BRACKET

In each JBT singles event, a 32-person bracket will be displayed prior to the start of the tournament, based on the final position finish of the previous singles event in that conference. These bowlers will be paired (1 vs. 32, 2 vs. 31, 3 vs. 30, etc.) to form single-game matches with each winner advancing to the next game in the bracket. The Repeater Bracket will use games 1-5 of the qualifying round. There is no entry fee for this event, and only those bowlers who finished in the top 32 positions of the prior event are eligible.

Entry Credit Points will be awarded to the top four finishers in the Repeater Bracket in each division. The winner will receive four points; the runner-up will receive two points; the 3rd and 4th place finishers will each receive one point.

Any bowler matched up against someone who does not bowl in that day's event will automatically win that game and advance to the next round of the Repeater Bracket.
