SCHOLARSHIP BRACKET COMPETITION
Optional scholarship bracket competition will be available for
scratch and handicap divisions during qualifying squads of the Las Vegas Open

 

 

The tournament is open to all male and female bowlers who were 21 years of age or younger as of August 1, 2008.

The scratch division entry fee is $150 per bowler for entries paid by August 1, 2009. The handicap division entry fee is $130 per bowler for entries paid by August 1, 2009. Entry fee paid after August 1, 2009 is $160 for the scratch division and $140 for the handicap division.

The tournament will consist of two divisions, scratch and handicap. Bowlers may choose to compete in either division. In the handicap division, 80% of the difference between the bowler's average and 200 will be added to each game.

40% of all entrants (in each division) will advance to the semi-final round. In the scratch division (only), a minimum of 20% of the female entrants will advance to the semi-finals, and be among the 40% of the entrants who advance to the semi-finals.

There will be one scholarship prize awarded for each six participants in each division. Additional scholarship prizes will be available through various optional programs.

Scholarship prizes may be claimed after the bowler has completed one semester  of college with a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0. Prizes may also be used for trade schools and/or other continuing education after graduation from high school. All requests will be considered on an individual basis.

Proper dress and behavior is expected of all participants. Collared shirts are suggested.  Shorts are permitted. Bowlers are NOT permitted to wear hats, tank tops, clothing with offensive language or graphics, or any apparel which the tournament director feels is inappropriate. Smoking is not permitted. Bowlers who use foul language, obscene gestures or abuse equipment will be subject to disqualification, as determined by the tournament director.

AVERAGES: Handicap division bowlers are to submit their highest final league average for 21 games or more for the 2008-09 season. Bowlers with a Junior Bowlers Tour (JBT) average for 21 games or more in the 2008-09 season  will use that average.  All bowlers are subject to the JBT average re-rating rules.  All handicap division bowlers MUST submit average verification (league standings sheet, average book, etc.) for the 2008-09 season.

All rules not specifically covered will be governed by the rules of the Junior Bowlers Tour.  The tournament director reserves all rights regarding all rules, assignment of averages and the operation of the tournament.

EARLY BIRD WARM-UP TOURNAMENT

Warm-Up Tournament will be conducted on Thursday, August 6, 2009. In the handicap division, handicap is based on 80% of the difference between the bowler's average and 200. Bowlers may send their entry fee with squad choice(s) along with their entry fee for the Las Vegas Open. Bowlers will be permitted to enter Early-Bird Tournament on the date of competition IF SPACE PERMITS. Bowlers may enter as many squads of the Early-Bird Tournament as they wish. Scholarship prizes will be awarded for the best scores of the day to one out of eight entrants, in each division, based on their three-game total. Bowlers may earn multiple prizes. SQUAD TIMES ARE LISTED ON THE ENTRY BLANK BELOW.

Anyone wishing to bowl in the JBT Las Vegas Open who has not yet entered the tournament should NOT send the entry fee at this time, since it won't arrive before the August 1st "late entry" deadline. Instead, send an e-mail to JBTBoss1@aol.com and give us your name, home state, division (scratch or handicap) and the squad you prefer to bowl.

We will answer your e-mail and hold a spot for you. The entry fee can be paid at the tournament site ($160 for the scratch division; $140 for the handicap division). If you are in Las Vegas on Thursday, August 6th we will be conducting our Early Bird Tournament at The Orleans from 2:00 P.M. until 10:00 P.M. Your Las Vegas Open entry fee can be paid at that time (to avoid the Friday morning lines).

All on-site payments must be made by money order or cash.
