Welcome to my tribute to the greatest baseball teams since 1901. This site first appeared in 1999 after I completed an extensive research project to name by 64 team field. The ratings are presented in a format that resembles the NCAA tournament. Teams were divided into four regions and ranked 1 through 16 within each. Automatic bids were awarded to all franchises that met either of the following criteria: wins a World Series, or has at least one season of .550 or better
Four years have passed since this page was first published. For a number of reasons I have updated this site. These include:
| 1) | The Arizona Diamondbacks now qualify for a spot. In 1999, the D-backs won 101 games. Two years later, they won 92 games and a World Series title. |
| 2) | In 2001, the Seattle Mariners won an American League record 116 games. |
| 3) | In 2002, the Anaheim Angels won their first World Series title. |
My latest rankings grid appears below. In preparing these ratings, my focus was on integrating the Diamondbacks, Mariners, and Angels clubs mentioned above into the research I did several years ago. As such, the 2003 update was not a comprehensive re-evaluation process.

Summary of changes since 1999
| 1) | The emergence of Arizona as an automatic qualifier would normally have meant that an at-large team (probably the 1920 Indians) be removed. However, my 2003 ratings are taking advantage of a recent NCAA tournament change that saw the field expand to 65 teams. Under the current format, #64 plays #65 for a berth in the field of 64. In the table below, these are the 1997 Marlins and 1996 Rangers. |
| 2) | The Mariners and Angels squads are considered upgrades. These replace the 1997 Mariners and 1982 Angels respectively. |
| 3) | Despite a record 116 wins, the 2001 Mariners faltered in the ALCS. The 2001 Mariners draw a #3 seed. The 2002 Angels are seeded 14th and the 2001 Diamondbacks get a #16 seed. |
