Yesterday was Independence Day and I had just the most enjoyable day that I have had in I don't know how long. It must have been at least a week.

I woke up relatively early — 8:30 — because I had not stayed up very late the night before. I pulled out my new Majestic Yellow Kitchen Aid Epicurean (love it) mixer and started to make some croissants. They are relatively easy to make, but they require a little dedication. To make the dough you start with a soft yeast bread dough that has risen and been chilled for an hour or so.

Lovely.
You roll that into a rectangle and spread it with butter. Fold the buttered dough into thirds and roll it out into a rectangle again. This you spread with butter, fold into thirds and roll out again. You do this four times in all then you chill it some more.

Oh, but when it is finally cut and shaped and baked it is sooo good.

Anyway, this took me until about noon when I made myself some coffee, restocked the CDs in the player, found my book of Evelyn Waugh's stories and camped on the sofa. I did get up once to get some of the cheesecake that I had been sent, but otherwise I didn't move until about 6:30pm when my room mate and I decided to go and get some dinner. We had Italian at the Sausage Factory and then went back home and I went to bed.

Lovely.
