Pre-Pride
Pride season is upon us. The Chorus has a cute little show put together for June 27th, Friday before Pride. It will be a piece that was composed for the Twin Cities Gay Mens' Chorus called Oliver Button is a Sissy based on the children's book by Tomie dePaola.
It is like a short musical with a choral narrative. I am very excited about it because I love Tomie dePaola and I think the piece is very well done. Our performance of it is coming together very nicely. There will also be a few other numbers along with the Lesbian Gay Chorus of San Francisco and the San Francisco Freedom Band. The narrator for the piece is BD Wong who played the lead in M. Butterfly. He will also be performing a song of his own. If you are in the area and read this in time, please consider coming and supporting us. Details are available at the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus Web Site.

Chef and I spent Memorial Day Weekend in Chicago visiting our friend Kolya. We were able to go see the show he is performing in, Floss which was very cute. The visit was short, but we were able to spend quite a bit of time with our friend and had dinner one night with one of the women that Chef works with. She and her husband took us around Cabrini Green to see it before it is demolished. We didn't have time for Greek Town or the Art Institute, but there will be other visits.

She walked the whole City in heels |
Chef's mom was able to come visit us in early May. She has never been to California - she has never been to one of the coasts so this was her first visit to the Ocean. We walked all over the City with her and saw a few things that I had never seen before, like Café trinity and Crissy Field. We also took a day trip down to Pescadero.
There is a lovely little beach there with a lot of rock outcroppings just off the shore. There are many tide pools amongst the rocks where you can see the marine life up-close and personal including starfish, mussels, anemonae, crabs, urchins, limpets and snails. Chef's mom really enjoyed wading in the surf and poking at the little creatures. I think she had a great time there. Then we went into Pescadero to have crab and artichoke soup at the little diner there.

I finally completed the shawl I was working on for my Sister in Law. She received it a few weeks ago and seemed very happy with it. I had a great time making it and was very pleased with how it turned out. When it was finally blocked (on our living room floor and getting in Chef's mom's way since that is where we had to put her up) it was over 4 ½ ft. square. Blocking it really brought the pattern to life. I used some fine wire threaded through the points of the edging to block it so I didn't have to pin each point individually.

Wicked is premiering in San Francisco before it opens on Broadway and we were able to go see it a couple nights ago through one of my Chorus Sisters. Such a fun show! It is based on the book Wicked about the Wicked Witch of the West and how she came to be Wicked. It was an opulent production with some amazing sets and a very touching story. Christen Chenowith does a great job as Glinda.

My current project is a fair-isle sweater for myself. It is a sky blue background with the foreground colors ranging from a mint green to a peachy beige color (all thanks to Kool-Aid and some well calculated mixing). Since it is a cardigan there is a steek running up the from that I cut open last week. I have attached the placket, but still need to tack down the cut edge underneath. I have started working on one of the sleeves. I am very pleased with how it is coming out so far. The six shades of foreground color blend together very well and contrast nicely with the blue.
