The eagle is not really a pet but more of a guardian. It is free to soar the skies at will. It is not bound to Rizal by any physical means but spiritually they are connected. Rizal found the young eagle either abandoned or more likely orphaned (Philippine eagles are currently an endangered species). Rizal watched the nest for three days and when no mother eagle came, he took the young eagle home. He was amazed that the eagle survived that long alone.
Now a year old it has become Rizal's companion. It warns him of any danger ahead, helps him during fights and generally tries to protect him. Bigger in size than your average Philippine eagle it's razor sharp talons and powerful beak can shred flesh in seconds. Not to be messed with.
The eagle has no name but can be summoned by Rizal with a distinctive call.
Check out the Philippine Eagle page at Bagheera.com. It really is such a cool animal. Let's hope they don't become extinct.
