MAKE A DIFFERENCE DAY

The Culver City Council PTA participates in this annual day of volunteering for it's community. The next MAKE A DIFFERENCE DAY is on Saturday, October 27, 2003.  In the past five years all of the Culver City PTAs  participated in this special event designed to help those in need in our own city. Our project has been to collect and redistribute items to families in need who have children attending Culver City Schools.

Our PTAs collected infant items (cribs, strollers, car seats and clothing), children and teen literature (books), electronics appropriate for teenagers, canned food, dry goods, clothing (including party clothes for teens) and sundry items and hotel samples.

Once again this year, Culver City Council PTA sponsored Make A Difference Day -- a national day of helping others -- a celebration of neighbors helping neighbors. Created by USA WEEKEND Magazine, Make A Difference Day is an annual event that takes place on the fourth Saturday of every October. Last year’s event took place on Saturday, October 27, 2002.

Each school selected one or more items to collect -- canned/dry good, baby items, clothing, books, games, sundry items and school supplies. We had an outstanding and exceptional collection this year from all of our elementary, middle and high schools. Families were extremely generous this year [42 cases of food; 10 cases clothing; 3 large boxes of toys & books]!  Through the cooperation of Doris McGregor of Grace Lutheran Church, our donations were taken there and sorted by church personnel and volunteers. Families identified through the school district were invited to "shop" anonymously at Grace Lutheran. We are pleased to report that 23 families were helped through this program. In addition, with the tremendous donations this year, your donations helped other families here in Culver City and the surrounding area. On behalf Council PTA, thank you, Culver City families, for your generosity!
