Recon Soup
2 pounds of stew meat
2 cans of green beans
5 potatoes
1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
3 celery stalks
1 large onion
2 cans of carrots
Parsley flakes
2 cans of sweet corn
Olive oil
Make sure you have a good cooking fire established with a lot of hot coals pushing out some good heat. Center your camp grill over the middle of the fire. Taking your large cooking pot with lid, preferably one that will hold 2 gallons, pour in approximately a tablespoon of oil (I prefer Olive oil but any type will work except your dad’s motor oil for the car), all the stew meat and the diced up onion. Pour in just enough water from your canteen to cover the meat barely and let cook for an hour. Then you will need to pour in the cut up potatoes and celery. Let this cook with the meat for 20 minutes. Then pour in the two cans of sweet corn, carrots, green beans and crushed tomatoes. Make sure that all the juice from each can goes in the pot since this will be the broth. They say that 2 tablespoons of parsley flakes is next, but I think a half a handful should be enough. Let this all cook for another hour, stirring occasionally, and get your canteen cups ready. It could easily serve 10 - 15 Young Marines. It will only serve 5 Recon Marines with no leftovers. Hope you enjoy!
