Subj: MECEP/MARINE OPTION GROOMING/CIVILIAN ATTIRE

  1. The grooming standards below conform to reference (a) and will be required for all

MECEP’s and Marine Options.

a. Males will be shaven at all times (7 days per week) and will present a neat and professional appearance within the following standards.

    1. Hair will be neat and evenly graduated from zero length at the hairline in the lower
    2. portion of the head to the upper portion of the head not to exceed 3 inches in length fully

      extended on the upper portion of the head. Sideburns will not extend below the top of the

      orifice of the ear nor will the style taper or flare. If applied, dyes, tints, bleaches and frostings which result in non-natural colors are not authorized. Color changes that detract from a professional image are prohibited.

    3. The face will be clean-shaven at all times (7 days per week).
    4. Body piercing of any sort is prohibited. This includes earrings in or out of uniform.
    5. Fingernails will be kept clean and neatly trimmed so as not to detract from a military

image or present a safety hazard.

  1. Females will be well groomed at all times and will abide by the following.

    1. Faddish and exaggerated hair styles to include shaved portions of the scalp other than
    2. the neckline is prohibited.

    3. Cosmetics, lipstick and nail polish, if worn, will be applied conservatively and will
    4. complement the individual’s complexion and skin tone.

    5. Only one earring will be worn on or in each earlobe. Ear-clips are not authorized.

The only earrings authorized for wear in uniform are single stud (gold or pearl) round earrings.

4. Earrings are not authorized in the utility uniform.

 

Subj: MECEP/MARINE OPTION GROOMING/CIVILIAN ATTIRE

2. Civilian attire will be in good taste and will not be eccentric.

  1. a. All clothing worn should present a clean neat pressed appearance without rips or

tears.

  1. A belt is required for all trousers and shorts which have belt-loops.
  2. Cut-off shorts of any type or clothing which gives the appearance of being cutoff is not

authorized.

d. Blouses (shirts) should also present a clean, neat, and pressed appearance. Collar-less shirts are authorized for wear but should not be offensive in any way. Collared shirts are encouraged when practicable. Brown and white skive shirts are not authorized for outerwear (unless actually engaged in PT).

e. Tank tops are not authorized for normal liberty attire. They may be worn when actually

conducting PT, when mowing a yard, when going to the beach, etc. They will not be worn

as a matter of routine.

f. PT gear is not to be worn as liberty attire. If your shorts do not have at lease three pockets they are probably PT shorts.

  1. g. Headgear will be removed when entering indoors.

3. These are the standards that you will be expected to adhere to as a Marine Officer. So get use to them! As General R.H. Barrow, the 27th Commandant of the Marine Corps, said "dress up, not down."
