We recommend buying this book on a site where you can buy books (like Amazon.com), because it is one of the GREATEST Pokémon books EVER made!! It has tons of tips on Gold & Silver, a full Pokemon list, and information on Missingno! If you run into it on the internet or possibly in stores, you should buy it! (Picture below.) This book has absolutely everything you need to know about Pokémon!

Pokemon Future, one of the greatest Pokémon books.

Since this site mainly focuses on the Red, Blue, Gold and Silver versions, there's a short notice at the bottom about the crystal, ruby and sapphire versions. Also, there's a report on why the Pokémon fad has faded.

SPECIAL: CRYSTAL, SAPPHIRE AND RUBY VERSIONS

The Crystal is a new version from Japan that just came to America on August 1st, 2001. It is like the Yellow version of the Red/Blue, only this time it's the Crystal of the Gold/Silver. The Crystal is basically the same as Gold/Silver, only you can play the game as a female or a male, there are new buildings that were not in Gold/Silver, there are new passages in the Ruins of Alph, etc. Stuff like that. The first time I found out about the Crystal version was from my friend Aaron Rosa who said it was coming to America, and it actually did! Well, you can buy the Crystal in stores if you want.

The ruby and sapphire versions are a whole other story. These are the most recent and high-tech Pokemon Gameboy games ever, with even better graphics, a totally new world, and 100 new Pokemon (making the total 350 Pokemon). Unfortunately, these versions came out a little too late. The Pokémon fad is long over, and these versions haven't caught on because of that fact (see paragraph below).

WHY THE POKEMON FAD HAS FADED

We all know by this point that the Pokémon fad has faded. In fall 1998 kids we're just starting to like Pokémon by getting up at 6:30 AM to see brand new episodes of the Pokémon TV series and buying the Red and Blue versions, which compared to the new versions, were quite primitive. Then all of a sudden in 1999, the Pokémon fad boomed, and tons of kids started liking Pokémon. From 1999 to the first half of 2001, millions of dollars were off merchandise, new books, new games, trading cards, and all kids of things. All kids could think about was Pokémon.

Then in the middle of 2001, the Pokémon fad started to fade-- dramatically. This may be because of several reasons. First of all, fads always fade. Second of all, little kids, such as toddlers, may have ruined Pokémon's reputation when they started liking Pokémon (or when there was no one left to aim the subject to), and third of all, kids just got tiered of it. Whatever the reason, by 2002 the fad was almost totally gone.

Even though the fad died, 3 new versions have emerged-- the Crystal, Ruby and Sapphire. However, after a while a lot of true Pokémon fans got tired of Nintendo adding new Pokemon, 101 in 2000 and then another 100 in 2003. They also got tired of all the almost 500 repetitive sappy Pokémon TV show episodes that kept coming out. The fact of the matter is, Nintendo could keep making TV show episodes and new versions forever, it doesn't mean kids are going to like it forever. However, if you feel like the fad shouldn't have ended, go ahead and play the games. Just because the fad ended doesn't mean you should stop playing all of the games.
