I wrote this several years ago when TWC was still in it's infancy. Time has passed and I am off of the liquid diet and back to good health, but I've kept it here as a reminder that while things are tough during flare-ups, things get better.
I recently had a flare-up and I am now on a liquid diet for several months. I haven't had any major problems since my diagnosis, and I had been eating most things that I used to eat, only with more soy than before. I have found that all of this changes when your on a liquid diet. For the first few days of it, I was a wreck. It seemed that all my favorite foods were taunting me. Watching television wasn't an escape for me; food commercials are everywhere.
Of course, during that time that I can't eat food, all the food companies unleash their new ad campaigns. Have you seen the new one for Krystal hamburgers where the burger pops out of thin air and talks to the nearby hungry person that they should eat food? Or how about the one for Pizza Hut where the annoying delivery guy shows up? "Excuse me," he says, "Did you order a stuffed crust pizza? With extra this.... and meaty this.... and cheesy..." Enough. The joke's on them, of course, because you can't sell food to a guy who can't eat it. My advice to others on temporary liquid diets? Keep a list of all your favorite foods that you want to eat when you can eat again. That way, you won't be trying to remember them full time, and the list is handy when you can partake upon your favorite culinary delights. Or, better yet, keep the remote control handy.
