Steer Clear
There are certain activities in the world that, when combined
with Crohn's Disease, make life miserable. Many patients do not
see the connection between CD symptoms and excessive activities.
Do you know of something that inflames CD that is not
related to diet or medicine? Send it in.
Alcohol
From Matt the Webmaster: Alcohol, in any form, can greatly
irritate in intestinal tract. Avoid alcohol at all costs!
Smoking
From Kristi: I can't convince my sister that
smoking is really making her problems worse.
Running and Other Exercises
From Rachel: I don't know about other CD'ers but
running makes my CD flare up like nothing else. Even a
short jog makes me feel nauseous.
From Matt the Webmaster: Running jars the system too much
for me.
Annie says: I have found that step aerobics and/or
any "high" impact aerobics is no longer
possible, it just makes me feel so horrible. For those of
you who have the same problem...try water aerobics, a lot
less impact and feels great!
From Loraine:
Swimming can hurt. I swim every day
but if I stretch my arms out too hard and too far this
stretches the tummy. It can really pull on the abdomen
and makes me feel very sick and causes me to stop.
Dancing is also something I greatly miss,
all that jiggling about is just impossible at the moment.
From Rachel:
I am in Judo, and I discovered that all the slamming and flipping and
being thrown really bothered the CD (which I didn't know at the time is
what I had). I guess your organs like to stay in place and have a fit
when they get thrown all over the place. I also began getting severely
wore out after just short Judo lessons. I would be exhausted and sick
for the rest of the day. Luckily, I was ranked (to green belt) while
they were running the tests, so I'll permanently have the belt to prove
how far I'd made it even if I can't continue Judo.
