9/10/2000 I've nearly completely stripped the
frame to take to Cincinnati to the metal refinishing shop to have it dipped to
remove all grease, paint and rust. However, I've encountered an obstacle while
trying to remove the top wishbone arms from the front suspension bracket
assembly. The top wishbone arms are held in place by a bolt passing
through the wishbone arm, the suspension bracket and through the rubber bush
which has a metal tube liner. Unfortunately, the bolts had become rusted
onto the metal liner of the rubber bush.
I tried drifting the bolt out with a punch and mallet. All I
accomplished was to bend the walls of the bracket assembly.
I used a reciprocating saw to cut through the rubber bush and bolt on
either side of the wishbone arms within the confines of the vertical walls of
the bracket assembly.
After cutting the bush, the arm pulled out and I was able to remove the
head and end of the bolt.
Here is where I damaged the lower A-arm where it bolts
onto the trunion. You can see where the saw blade cut the inside edge of
the A-arm and how I repaired the damage. (check out welding repair
of damaged wishbone)
