Scruffy was a 12 year old Yorkshire Terrier, who weighed only 6 pounds and lived with the Whitmire family's granddaughter of Kansas City, Kansas, in a home where he was well cared for and had the love of little children who wanted nothing but to love and play with him. After a not so ideal start in life, it appeared that Scruffy was destined to live out the rest of his life in peace and happiness. Unfortunately, this was not to be, and what happened next was worse than anything anyone could have imagined.
Joe, Marcus, Richard and Lance obtained a video camera and started to record as they lured Scruffy from his home. Next, one of the men elevated Scruffy off the ground by the neck and began choking him. Scruffy, still alive, was then placed in a trash bag. These evil men then doused the trash bag with what appeared in the video to be lamp oil, took a cigarette lighter, and set Scruffy on fire. Scruffy, at this point in the video, began to run wildly in pain and agony around the trees while Joe, Marcus, Richard and Lance watched and laughed. When the flames finally went out, Scruffy was still alive, but his torture was not over.
Next, the men tried to decapitate Scruffy with a shovel. After slamming the shovel into Scruffy's neck and not being able to attain their goal, they realized that Scruffy was more of a fighter than they had expected . The men then opened Scruffy's mouth and began to pull his jaws apart, as if trying to rip his face in two, all the while laughing and having a good time. They then proceeded to use the shovel in place of a club and beat Scruffy until his tiny body gave out and he died.
They made copies of this obscene six minute videotape showing the barbaric torture and murder of this tiny pet, and distributed these copies to their friends, to be enjoyed over, and over again!
You can write D.A. Terra Morehead to encourage her to press for the maximum penalty in this case. You Can Write to the Judge handling the trial of these monsters. The only way the type of horrific crime that Scruffy endured will end, is if we, the people, inform prosecutors and judges that we will not tolerate this kind of behavior.Dear Sirs and Madams:
I have read reports of the torture and murder of the little pet dog, Scruffy. I am shocked, appalled and outraged by this vicious, sadistic, and senseless crime.
The pet dog, Scruffy, who was tortured and killed by the alleged perpetrators, Jose Gutierrez, Marcus Rodriguez, Richard Golubski and Lance Arsenalt, was a trusting, warm-blooded living being, capable of pain and fear.
The taking of any life, in the commission of a crime, is repugnant to me. Left unpunished, or not sufficiently punished, these men may very likely go on to commit other violent crimes, including the murder of people.
I wish to express to you my hopes that every effort will be made by your office to prosecute and convict these men accused of this atrocious crime, using every resource available to your office.
Please make every effort, upon their conviction, to sentence them to the maximum penalty allowed by law. It is my belief that imposing the maximum sentence will serve as a deterrent to the repetition of crimes of this nature.
