Chapter 2: How Kendale Got its Name. As part of our agreement in purchasing the camp, we agreed to change the camp's name. Since Lillian Strauss (no relationship) and I had the same last name she was fearful that if I failed people would come after her to make my debts good. Fortunately that never happened.
It was decided that the camp's name should be simple and easy to spell. In
addition, we did not want an Indian name since we were in New England. So we
searched through the camp directories. Our first choice was Camp Kenmore (after
our washing machine). It was taken. Our second choice was Camp Glenwood
(after our bowling alley). That was also taken. Finally, Marian came up with
the name Kendale. Most people who did not know our family thought we had two children, Ken and
Dale.
