Medium Cool '99

A day in the Park with little old me,
Golly, Golly, Golly Gee...

The truth is we captured a dream
Easier to grasp a sonar light beam

But with each other, we as one reached back
We turned about the aging track.

We captured a moment and made it real
A truth that you cannot touch but only feel.

We went back in time to another day
We had a full afternoon of true free play

And it was a journey so real, so fine
It left us giddy like a glass of wine

We played in a park and swiped at the ball
We made our hearts feel ever so tall

We sat on a bench and recalled the past
We made an afternoon three decades last

We travelled a road long since forgot
We proved that laughter never says not

We brought back to life forgotten names
Of long bus rides and inter camp games.

It was just an afternoon in the fall sun
But scores of people came together as one

You laughed, you cried, you smiled, you died.
You crossed the great emotional divide.

You remembered the way it used to be.
You recalled your youth that was so free.

You talked about kids and your life,
You talked about home and your strife.

You sat on a bench and laughed with friends
You tied up some emotional loose ends.

You relived color wars and raids in the bunks
You looked at photos of little young punks.

Punks that you see were you and me
That asked you 'How could this be?'

Just an October day in the Fall sun
But unlike any other one.

So calendar this day and do not forget
This special afternoon that we met

The sun was out, the skies were blue
Mark it down as October true

That special picture outside the park
could a playright not record that mark?

Turn to the photos in winter's cold
So maybe we all got a little old...

Still we bonded with smiles, bonded with love
Fit each other like a mitten or glove.

Days past from a summer camp
Glow even today like a beaming lamp.

Thanks then for giving me a day so grand
For taking my feet off the land

For letting my spirit soar
For opening friendship's renewing door.

Thanks so much for making me believe
For the new memories I have to weave

For an afternoon we all shared
Thirty years later
We still cared.

What a beautiful day.
What a beautiful life.

Love,
Norm
