JESUIT OVERPOWERS BROWN ELEVEN, 59-0

By Charlie Roberts

NEW ORLEANS, La. Oct. 12-Jesuit's Blue Jays, nursing a grudge for a top-heavy defeat meted out by Brown High last year, vented their fury on the outmanned Atlantans at City Park Stadium Thursday night, snowing them under a blanket of touchdowns, 59-0.

Nine times a lad in Jesuit white crossed the Rebel goal, and although eight different players figured in the scoring, Coach Gernon Brown kept his regulars in most of the way and "poured it on".

Clancy Dupepe, Don Harter, Richard Reicke, Erwin Caswell, Dickie Shirer, Charlie Keller, Phil Beron and Harry Duvigneaud tallied the TDs. Reicke scored twice.

Only redeeming feature for the Brownies was the punting of Sonny Harmon, who booted 43 and 47-yard quick kicks and once punted 55 yards. The Rebs managed only one first down, and didn't come close to crossing midfield.

The Jays poured it on from the outset. They first gained possession of the fourth of the game when Harmon couldn't get off a punt and ran the ball. He got out only to the Brown 27 where Jesuit took possession. Beron slashed off left tackle on the next play and went the distance for a 6-0 lead.

Midway the first stanza the Jays barged 52 yards on five plays to tally again. Beron's 32-yard romp started it, and Dupepe's eight-yard fling to Duvigneaud ended it in the end zone.

A 61-yard scoring drive came early in the second quarter as Lefty Latour southpawed two 12-yard passes, one to Duvigneaud, the other to Charlie Keller, and Caswell threw to Duvigneaud for 32 yards. Caswell rammed the final yards for a 19-0 advantage.

The next surge was for 32 yards after Richard Shirer intercepted a Bobby Moore aerial. Dupeppe, Reicke and Duvigneaud banked along the ground and Dupepe slanted off tackle for the final 13. Beron's conversion made it 26-0.

Harmon fumbled on the first play after the subsequent kickoff, and Latour recovered for Jesuit at the Brown 21. Caswell flipped 11 yards to Duvigneaud, and three plays later Harter flung one eight yards to Keller in the end zone for a 32-0 lead shortly before half time.

A 42-yard skip by Dupepe and a 23-yard pass from Dupepe to Shirer garnered an early third quarter score for a 38-0 advantage.

The Jays surged 53-yards, mostly on the ground with Harter and Reicke running the ball, to make it 45-0 before the chapter ended. Reicke bucked over from two yards out, and Beron kicked the extra point.

Leon Comeaux ran 14 and Reicke eight to get another early in the fourth perion. Reicke ran over the 52nd point.

Harter hauled a punt back 52 yards for the final tally midway that final quarter. Caswell ran over the extra point.
